Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre Welcomes Bara Swain, 6/23

By: Jun. 03, 2012

By special invitation from Burt Reynolds, award-winning playwright Bara Swain will be coming to Jupiter, Fla. Ms. Swain will host an evening of her plays on center stage at The Burt Reynolds Institute on Saturday night, June 23rd, at 7:30 pm.

Swain, who mostly writes on women’s issues, co-produces Abingdon’s Benefit Challenge Play Series (NYC) and serves as a teaching artist for underserved New Yorkers. She also teaches writing intensives to elementary and college students, as well as actors at all stages of development. Many of Swain’s plays, including Aboard the Guy V. Molinari, The Hotel Lobbyist and Ideal Grace have been honored in national competitions. Her work has been performed in venues across the country.

Widowed in 1995, most of Swain’s work is based on her personal experiences with illness, loss, and hope. After her husband’s death, she returned to school and received an M.F.A. in Fiction and Writing for Children from the New School, NYC. She is a member of The Dramatist’s Guild, Abingdon’s Playwright’s Group, FAB Women at Barrow Group, and AEA.

In talking about her upcoming trip to Florida, Bara Swain expressed gratitude to Burt Reynolds for making the visit and the presentation of her plays possible. Reynolds said, “I am very pleased that a talent such as Bara will honor us with an evening of fine writing, which will also include fine acting by my Master Class students.”

For Palm Beach and Martin County residents, An Evening with Bara Swain is a unique opportunity to sample marquee-worthy writing and acting without the high cost of Broadway.

Tickets are $20.00 each. To reserve a seat, call 561 385-1584 or write: briftfinancedirector@comcast.net.
