Entr'Acte Theatrix's AVENUE Q to Raise Funds for Compass and BC/EFA, 6/26

The cast and crew of Entr'Acte Theatrix will be 'passing the hat' at the Thursday, June 26th performance of Avenue Q. As an homage to the gay community, and in honor of Pride Month, the company will be raising funds for Compass (the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Palm Beach County) and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The New A.C.T. Studio Theatre will offer a special summer production of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow from tonight, June 20th- June 28th in its intimate 37-seat blackbox. Speed-the-Plow is a witty satire of 3 Hollywood types who claw their way to the top in a shallow, L.A. world. The show mark's the debut production at the brand new A.C.T. Studio Theatre, dedicated to offering intimate, contemporary plays in the Cedar Point Plaza on Ocean Boulevard.

Avenue Q has been called the 'funniest dirty musical' or 'the dirtiest funny musical' ever. Written by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Frozen) the Tony Award-winning show is a clever and irreverent look at the world through the eyes of the residents of Avenue Q as they explore and address the issues associated with growing up in the 'real' world, rather than the one their parents - and Sesame Street - described to them. Using a unique combination of humans and puppets, the musical chronicles its characters' struggles to find decent jobs, stable relationships, and their purpose in life.

Chinese crossover artist Simon Ma's new world tour exhibition 'Heart • Water • Ink' makes its U.S. premiere in Miami July 12 - Oct. 19 at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. A tribute to Chinese master artist Xu Beihong, the exhibition is curated by Dr. Carol Damian, Director and Chief Curator of The Frost Art Museum.

Miami Dade College's (MDC) MDC Live Arts will present the 2014 edition of the Live Arts Lab, a professional development laboratory for local working artists. Acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Baba Israel, who was first introduced to South Florida audiences during YoungArts week, will lead the Lab August 5 - 30 at New World School of the Arts (NWSA) at MDC in downtown Miami.

David Arisco, artistic director of Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, is proud to introduce the six stellar productions selected for the 2014 -- 2015 Mainstage Season, which will feature one of the largest and most epic productions ever staged by the company, the Tony Award-winning Ragtime (January 28 -- February 22, 2015). New musicals and plays including the Off-Broadway rock opera hit Murder Ballad (October 8 -- November 2, 2014), a great play for the holidays Miracle on South Division Street (December 3 -- 28, 2014), Broadway's newest musical comedy making its regional theatre debut at Actors' Playhouse First Date (March 18-April 12, 2015), the South Florida premiere of The Book Club Play (May 13 -- June 7, 2015) and the smash-hit comedy Unnecessary Farce (July 15 -- August 9, 2015) will round out the new season.
FAB! Awards Over $191,000 to Arts Organizations

Twenty-five arts projects have been brought to life for the 2014 - 2015 season, with help through a grant award from Funding Arts Broward (FAB!). That gives four new eligible FAB! grantees an opportunity through this resourceful funding pool. The new arts organizations added to the FAB! portfolio are: Brazilian Voices; Chameleon Musicians; Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida and the Pablo Malco Foundation. Highlights of the most recent 25 awards will give South Florida one more opportunity to see Alvin Ailey - Back in Broward at Broward Center for the Performing Arts; another exposure of Puccini's Madame Butterfly though Florida Grand Opera; and Seraphic Fire's Broward Spring Season. This, just to name a few attractions that Broward residents and visitors can count on thanks to smart arts supporters who collaborate, give and enhance our community. Thank you FAB! 'This grant award has been fundamental in helping the Coral Springs community see an expanded arts and culture portfolio within its very diverse suburban community,' says grantee, Executive Director, Coral Springs Museum of Art, Bryan Knicely.

When award-winning vocalist Mimi J. sought to develop a one-woman show about the women of soul who influenced her, she immediately turned to her good friend, Carbonell-nominated director/choreographer Kevin Black. They tossed around a number of ideas, but they kept coming back to the music of the 70s - music they both love. Together they came up with the concept, the title, and the song choices for On the Radio: Sounds of the 70s.

On Tuesday evening, June 10, the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre will present a preview of The Property Known as Garland starring Lee Marlow and directed by legendary film actor Burt Reynolds at the Lake Park Mirror Ballroom. The show, which is being performed on Judy Garland's birthday, begins at 8:00 pm. The proceeds will benefit the Burt Reynolds Institute Building Fund.
