Set against the backdrop of the 1980s and featuring both a female Romeo and Juliet, RTC’s Romeo & Juliet explores themes of identity, expectation, and rebellion through a queer lens.
“The decision to set this story during the ’80s has brought us a newfound depth for the characters and their context,” said co-directors Abby Rowland and Lindsay Jane. “This time period makes it more than just a story about two families at odds — it becomes a story about the societal expectations that shape our lives, and the cost of defying them in pursuit of love.”
The production runs August 8–31, 2025 at the Whitmore Theatre in North Hollywood, CA, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm (doors open 15 minutes prior to showtime).
Come join RTC for an evening of small-town beach vibes, original 80s-inspired power ballads, a whole lot of neon, leather, and denim — and, perhaps most importantly, a poignant and zealous reimagining of a classic story.
