In a rare Los Angeles appearance, the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), led by Ludovic Morlot, comes to Walt Disney Concert Hall for one evening only, Saturday, December 10, at 8 p.m. The orchestra, one of this country's oldest and greatest, is joined by virtuoso Gil Shaham in Brahms' Violin Concerto. Also on the program is John Harbison's Symphony No. 4, part of the BSO's two-year survey of the composer's symphonies. The concert closes with Maurice Ravel's Daphnis and Chloé, Suite No. 2, a work closely associated with the BSO and reflecting its international reputation as one of the great interpreters of French music. The BSO last performed in Los Angeles at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in May of 1991.

The orchestra's Los Angeles appearance is the final stop on its five-concert tour of California this month.

The concert is the first event of the LA Phil's 2011/12 Visiting Orchestras series. The 2011/12 season welcomes two additional visiting orchestras to Walt Disney Concert Hall – the Seoul Philharmonic, led by Myung-Whun Chung, April 19, 2012; and the New York Philharmonic led by Alan Gilbert and featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman, May 9, 2012.
