The Long Island Children's Museum Theater is expanding its outreach to families with an "autism-friendly" live theater performance on Friday, March 28. The 7 p.m. performance of "Aesop's Fables" by acclaimed children's playwright Mike Kenny has been adapted to create a supportive environment that addresses the needs of those on the autism spectrum and with other sensory sensitivities.

Being an enthusiast of old movies, I saw Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film version of Fredrick Knott's Dial M for Murder long before I attended the stage incarnation. I have to say that I actually grew bored with film; the 'thriller' seemed very slow to me. Thankfully, the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts' (SCPA) production, running through March 30th, put a better spin on this riveting story... and went at a better pace.

New Ohio Theatre Artistic Director Robert Lyons in association with Purpleman Theater have announced casting for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel's And Baby Makes Seven. Marc Stuart Weitz will direct ensemble including Ken Barnett (Wonderful Town, Julie Taymor's The Green Bird) as Peter, Susan Bott (Julie Kramer's The Best of Everything) as Ruth and Constance Zaytoun (Moby Pomerance's Broken Hands) as Anna. And Baby Makes Seven is an uproarious and timely comedy that has not been seen professionally in New York in 20 years. Performances will take place today, March 11-April 12 at the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street, between Washington and Greenwich Streets). Critics are welcome as of March 19 for an opening of March 23.

'MELODIES & MEMORIES: A Life-Long Learning Program' 2014 Spring Semester to Launch 3/25 at WHBPAC

The WHBPAC's Nancy & Frederick DeMatteis Arts Education Program invites all seniors ages 65+ to tap into that creativity during the spring semester of Melodies & Memories: A Life-Long Learning Program - an original performing arts program designed to foster the continuous development of skills and knowledge throughout the lives of older adults. This 10 week program meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning March 25, and culminates in a public performance on Sunday, June 1. The fee for the program is $80.
5th Annual One-Act Play Festival Set for Playhouse at St. Paul's, 3/28-30

The Fifth Annual One-Act Play Festival opens at The Playhouse at St. Paul's, 270 Main Street, Northport for four performances over the weekend of March 28-30. Thirteen new plays, selected in a competition, will be performed twice each. 'Program 1,' featuring seven plays, will be presented on Friday evening, March 28 at 7:30 pm and also on Saturday afternoon, March 29 at 2 pm. 'Program 2,' comprised of six plays, will be performed on Saturday evening, March 29 at 7:30 pm and also on Sunday afternoon, March 30 at 3 pm.
