LISTING INFORMATION

Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to producing a season of contemporary plays and musicals as broad and diverse as New York itself, invites individuals from historically underrepresented communities in the theatre workforce to apply for a full-time Stage Management Fellowship for the 2021-2022 season. Founded in 1970, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights.

MTC is producing six plays this season in Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and off-Broadway at the historic New York City Center complex. Writers represented in the season include Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Dominique Morisseau, Paula Vogel, Simon Stephens, Joshua Harmon, and Anchuli Felicia King.

The Stage Management Fellowship is a nine-month intensive professional development opportunity for early-career professionals with theatrical stage management experience and training. The Fellow will be supervised by MTC’s Assistant Production Manager, and primarily will serve as a Production Assistant on three productions during the 2021-22 season, two off-Broadway and one on Broadway. The Fellow will support the stage management team from pre-production week through at least opening night. The individual will help generate show-related paperwork and will work with the stage management team to track props, costumes, and scene changes. Additionally, the Fellow will gain experience in production management and working in a producing organization when not engaged in rehearsals or performances.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a sharp eye for detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate and prioritize. A strong working knowledge of theatrical production procedures and practices and strong computer skills, especially proficiency with MS Office, are required. Experience working in a union employment environment and familiarity with AEA agreements is a plus. Theatrical production experience is also required. Evening, weekend and early morning hours will be required. Occasional physically demanding work, such as lifting and moving equipment, will be required.

This is a full-time non-exempt position paid at $600/week beginning September 7, 2021 and concluding May 23, 2022 with benefits package including: choice between two group health plans with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage; basic life and long term disability insurance; paid time off; voluntary dental, vision and flex savings plans for healthcare, dependent care and commuting expenses.

The application deadline is Friday, July 9, 2021. Please submit via email a cover letter, a separate statement on how this fellowship will support your career goals, a résumé, and two letters of recommendation from theatre or arts professionals (one letter may be from a college professor) with “SM FELLOW” in the subject line to: Vincent Losito, Director of Human Resources, at fellows@mtc-nyc.org. All documents should be in MS Word, PDF, or plain text format.

Manhattan Theatre Club believes that equity, diversity and inclusion should be essential elements of all activity within the organization. We have made it a priority to create and maintain an environment that is attractive to and supportive of all individuals regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender identity, age, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, language, military or veteran status, etc. MTC is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
