Director of Marketing and Communications

The Director of Marketing is responsible for leading the strategic vision and daily operations of Asolo Repertory Theatre’s Marketing Department, with direct responsibility for driving earned income and audience engagement. This position oversees institutional branding, advertising, public relations, and customer-facing services including box office, house management, and concessions. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Marketing ensures that the theatre’s messaging, reach, and revenue objectives align with its artistic mission and community values.
Key Responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership
• Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to institutional strategy, planning, and cross-departmental initiatives.
• Represent the Marketing Department and its priorities in presentations to the Board of Directors and other external stakeholders.
• Design and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to meet or exceed earned revenue goals from ticket sales, subscriptions, and auxiliary income sources.
• Lead audience development efforts with a focus on growth, retention, and broadening community engagement.
Marketing and Communications
• Oversee all advertising, media placement, public relations, social media, and digital communications, ensuring alignment with Asolo Rep’s brand and mission.
• Supervise the development of print and digital collateral, including season brochures, show programs, signage, and email campaigns.
• Identify and activate promotional opportunities, partnerships, and community collaborations that extend reach and increase impact.
• Maintain productive relationships with media outlets, advertising partners, and vendors.
Revenue Oversight
• Establish earned income projections and pricing strategies in collaboration with the Managing Director and Artistic Director.
• Create and manage marketing budgets across all revenue streams, including single tickets, subscriptions, group sales, and concessions.
• Monitor performance metrics and adapt strategies to optimize return on investment.
Operational Oversight
• Direct and support the operations of the box office, front-of-house/house management, and concessions in coordination with departmental managers.
• Foster seamless integration between marketing, customer service, and production schedules to ensure audience satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Team Leadership
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate marketing and customer service staff, including managers, coordinators, and seasonal personnel.
• Cultivate a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive departmental culture where staff are supported and empowered.
• Lead ongoing efforts to improve internal processes, communication workflows, and audience insights through data and research.
Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing or communications, with at least 3 years in a leadership role; experience in performing arts or cultural organizations preferred.
• Demonstrated success in strategic marketing, revenue generation, and team leadership.
• Strong knowledge of digital marketing platforms, CRM systems (such as Tessitura), media planning, and branding.
• Experience using project management software, such as Asana, to track progress, collaborate across departments, and meet deadlines.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
• Ability to interpret marketing analytics and audience data to inform strategy, optimize campaigns, and measure success.
• Experience collaborating across departments (e.g., artistic, development, education) to align marketing strategies with institutional goals.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
