Red Kettle Theatre Company in association with Garter Lane Arts Centre presents Edna O'Briens The Country Girls. This wonderful, wild, funny and moving story that shocked the nation on its publication in 1960 has now been adapted for the stage by the author.
The Country Girls tells the story of Kate and Baba, who have spent their childhood together in rural Ireland. Leaving their sheltered cnovent school in search of life and love in the big city, they struggle to maintain their tumultuous relationship. Kate, dreamy and romantic, yearns for true love; while Baba wants to experience the life of a single grild. They set out to conquer the world together but as their lives take unexpected turns, including Kate's romantic encounter with Mr. Gentleman, the girls must ultimately learn to find their own way.
The fantastic cast assembled features some leading lights of the Irish stage.
Directed by Mikel Murfi - this is a truly contemporary, highly theatrical, dramatic and free-flowing telling of this classic coming of age story.
