Performing Piaf at Black Box

Christine Bovill's heartfelt and loving homage to the legendary Edith Piaf brings was one of the stand-out successes of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

Like her heroine - who, she explains during the show, has had a profound impact on the direction of her own life - Bovill is a great storyteller and she brings the songs to life with terrific panache and dramatic flair.

From 'La Vie En Rose' to 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien', you can almost hear the sorrow and heartache of Edith Piaf in the husky yet soaring vocals of Bovill as she transports you back to 1940s France.

In her passionate performance Bovill strives to express the true Piaf - something which she pulls off with exceptional sincerity. Hymne a l'Amour [If You Love Me] - penned by Piaf after her great love died - and Milord benefit especially from her fascinating introductions.
