Following her 3 sold out dates at The Olympia Theatre last June, Mary Black has confirmed a concert at The Grand Canal Theatre with her band on 13th May 2012. This announcement coincides with last week’s release of her highly anticipated new album “Stories from The Steeples”.
‘Stories from The Steeples' is Mary’s first studio album in 6 years and features the hit singles ‘Marguerite and the Gambler' plus the current single ‘Walkin with my Love’ with Finbar Furey (which has been donated to the Alzheimer Cafe). The album also features collaborations with Imelda May and Janis Ian.
Mary is known for her commitment to original material by Irish songwriters and her unique interpretations of the songs she chooses and ‘Stories from The Steeples’ is no exception. Apart from Ricky Lynch’s ‘Marguerite’, Mary has included 3 new songs from young Irish songwriter Danny O’Reilly.
In an industry noted for its fickleness and its almost insatiable need for fresh novelties Mary Black’s enduring successes have proven that her depth of talent and her love of singing transcend the generations, as well as national and musical boundaries too. She is indeed a real Irish treasure and her talent a gift from this small island to a grateful world.
