Gúna Nua Theatre Company and Civic Theatre presents
Goddess of Liberty
By Karen Ardiff
With dramaturgical support from Fishamble’s The New Play Clinic.
A Gúna Nua commission by award-winning actor and novelist Karen Ardiff, this beautiful new play tells the story of two Irish immigrants in gold-rush Alaska. The gripping storyline is set in an archetypal boom-bust town. Frankie and May are waiting anxiously for May’s daughter T-Belle to return from her claim in the Chilkoot pass. But the gold seams are drying up, Frankie isn’t well and there are secrets and surprises everywhere; under the floorboards, down on the docks and in their heads. The Goddess of Liberty tells the story of three women on the edge of the world and is by turns hilarious, moving and heart-breaking. This is Karen Ardiff’s first play since her critically acclaimed debut novel – The Secret of My Face.
