Richard Strauss established himself as the leading opera composer of his day with Salome and Der Rosenkavalier. His sparkling orchestration and lovely melodies continue to enchant opera audiences.
Apart from opera, Richard Strauss was also a master of tone poems and solo songs. The FNO concert to celebrate his 150th anniversary will feature the brilliant tone poem Don Juan and the Prologue from the opera Ariadne auf Naxos, last staged at the FNO almost 30 years ago. The profound side of the composer is displayed in his last work, Four Last Songs, written in his eighties. The soloist will be Anna Gabler, and the concert will be conducted by Chief Conductor Michael Güttler.
