ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE:

Roles:

TULLY: (Male, 27-39) Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful.

RACHEL: (Female, 27-33) Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan.

TAMMY: (Female, 30-39) Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiancé, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life.

BRICK: (Male, 30-39) The Island bartender. Has a big heart and is a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful.

MARLEY: (Female, 40-49) No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer.

J.D.: (Male, 50-69) A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life.

ENSEMBLE: Jamal/Ted, Chadd, Goon #1, Goon #2, Cloud, Jesus, Vacation Guests.

TITO MERELLI: Male. A world-famous tenor, known also to his fans as ll Stupendo.

MARIA: Female. Tito's wife.

BELLHOP: Male. A bellhop.

DIANA: Female. A soprano.

JULIA: Female. Chairman of the Opera Guild.

ANNIE: A street-wise orphan; she is eventually taken in by Oliver Warbucks. Spunky, friendly, big-voiced. Gender: Female. Age: 10 to 12. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

WARBUCKS: A successful businessman with a warm heart. Rich, stiff-collared, bullish. Gender: Male. Age: 40 to 55. Vocal range top: Gb5. Vocal range bottom: B3.

GRACE FARRELL: Faithful secretary to Mr. Oliver Warbucks. Poised, sweet, gentle. Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 35. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: Bb3.

ORPHANS: The other girls in the orphanage with Annie. These girls are gritty, neglected and vulnerable, yet basically honest and potentially loveable. Includes Molly, Kate, Tessie, Pepper, July, and Duffy. Gender: Females. Ages: 6 to 13.

MISS HANNIGAN: The orphanage matron who hates children but is fond of liquor. Very disillusioned, bitter, and cold. Gender: Female. Age: 30 to 45. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

ROOSTER: Miss Hannigan's no-good brother looking for a quick buck. A sleazy, slick con man. Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: B3.

LILY: Rooster's girlfriend, who is also out for a quick buck. She is considered to be a floozy and bimbo. Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: B3.

BERT HEALY: The ultimate radio personality. He helps Annie by broadcasting about the search for her birth parents. Gender: Male. Age: 30 to 45. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: E4.

ROOSEVELT: The 32nd President of the United States. A Democrat and friend of Warbucks. Gender: Male. Age: 40 to 60. Vocal range top: F4. Vocal range bottom: Eb3.

ENSEMBLE: Servants (Drake, Mrs. Greer, Mrs. Pugh), Boylan Sisters, Cabinet Members, Hooverville Citizens. Gender: Any genders.

LEGALLY BLONDE:

Elle Woods: The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality. Gender: Female. Age: 18 to 25. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: Gb2.

Emmett Forrest: A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. He is charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 25. Vocal range top: A4. Vocal range bottom: B2.

Paulette: A brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who is friends with Elle and longs to find a man for herself. Gender: Female. Age: 35 to 45. Vocal range top: A5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Professor Callahan: A pompous, sleazy and manipulative law professor at Harvard who is highly successful, but completely immoral. Gender: Male. Age: 45 to 55. Vocal range top: F#4. Vocal range bottom: A2.

Warner Huntington III: A good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle's heart and heads off to Harvard Law. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 25. Vocal range top: Ab4. Vocal range bottom: Eb3.

Vivienne Kensington: A smart, savvy, and uptight law student and Warner's fiancée who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend. Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 25. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Brooke Wyndam: An exercise video mogul who is also a former sorority girl. She is energetic and charismatic, yet currently on trial for murder. Gender: Female. Age: 25 to 35. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Ensemble: Greek Chorus; Students; Delta Nu Members.

NUNSENSE:

Roles:

SISTER MARY REGINA, MOTHER SUPERIOR: Female, 60’s (Range: B3-F5) A feisty overweight Sophie Tucker-type who can't resist the spotlight.

SISTER MARY HUBERT, MISTRESS OF NOVICES: Female, mid 50’s (Range: G3-F5) The second in command, she is always competing with the Mother Superior.

SISTER ROBERT ANNE: Female, Mid 30’s (Range: G3-D5) A streetwise taught character from Brooklyn. A constant source of aggravation for the Mother Superior.

SISTER MARY AMNESIA: Female, Late 30’s (Range: Db4-C6) This nun lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head. She is very sweet.

SISTER MARY LEO: Female, Early/Mid 30’s (Range: G#3-G5) The novice, who has entered the convent with the firm desire to become the first nun ballerina.

WE WILL ROCK YOU:

Roles:

GALILEO: Male. A misfit who keeps hearing strange voices and songs in his head which deliver messages he can’t understand. Galileo won’t dress like a Ga Ga kid and has been caught trying to make music. He is confused and unaware that he is the one the Bohemians have been waiting for, who will lead them to the place where the last remaining live instruments have lain hidden for hundreds of years.

SCARAMOUCHE: Female. Another misfit who also gets into trouble with the Secret Police, Scaramouche meets Galileo in hospital, and they run away together. Her sharp wit keeps Galileo on his toes and gradually they fall for each other.

KILLER QUEEN: Female. Killer Queen is a ruthless businesswoman and is in charge of Global Soft, the worldwide corporation which is responsible for the suppression of all live music. She’s power crazy and tough, as well as beautiful.

KHASHOGGI: Male. He works for Killer Queen, getting rid of any original or creative musical thoughts and going after the Bohemians. His victims are sent to the Seven Seas of Rhye.

SECRET POLICE: Male and/or Female. These semi-automated characters carry out the bidding of the Killer Queen and Khashoggi.

GA GA KIDS/TEEN QUEENS: Male and Female. Living in a world of consumerism and downloadable music, the Ga Ga kids don’t notice their own soulless-ness.

BUDDY (Male) Buddy is an old librarian and a hippy who has studied the sacred musical texts to the extent that even the Seven Seas of Rhye cannot entirely erase them from his mind. He’s a comic character who acts as a foil to Galileo and Scaramouche towards the end of the play.

THE BOHEMIANS: Male and Female. A group of rebels, determined to fight against Global Soft and its downloadable music. Their base is Tottenham Court Road Tube station, and they have taken the names of musical heroes from the past, such as Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard, and Britney.

BRIT/OZ: BRIT is male. OZ is female. Two of the Bohemians who are intent on discovering the secrets of live music, and who believe that someone will come who will show the Bohemians the way. When they find Scaramouche and Galileo they are unsure at first, but are eventually persuaded that Galileo really does have strange musical lyrics in his head over which he has no control. When the Secret Police attack the Bohemian hide out, Brit is killed and Oz is captured along with the other Bohemians.

SUPER YUPPIES: Male and Female.

TEACHER: Female.

DOCTORS: Male and Female.

HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY

Roles:

HANK WILLIAMS: Male. A south Alabama hillbilly singer, thin and black-eyed. He dresses in high-priced western suits and always wears a Stetson.

TEE-TOT: A Black south Alabama street singer of indeterminate age.

THE WAITRESS: Female. The keeper of an all-night diner somewhere in the south. A cheerful, lonely person.

HOSS: Male. A member of Hank's band, The Drifting Cowboys. A big, boyish man, Hank's age. Plays upright (doghouse) bass.

JIMMY (BURRHEAD): Male. A member of Hank's band, plays lead electric guitar. From Oklahoma, especially so in his speech.

LEON (LOUDMOUTH): Male. A member of the band and a skillful musician on many instruments, featured on the fiddle. Pleasant and taciturn.

FRED ROSE (PAP): Male. A founder and executive of a Nashville music publishing company. A Midwesterner from Chicago.

AUDREY WILLIAMS: Female. Hank's first wife, later his professional widow. A blond Alabama beauty, sweet and exuberant and sure.

SHAG: The pedal steel guitarist.

PLAID TIDINGS:

Roles:

Francis: The leader and caretaker of the group. Confident. Asthmatic. He has a great deal of compassion for the music and the group. Romantic crooner and spiritual singer. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 40. Vocal range top: B5. Vocal range bottom: F3.

Sparky: The clown of the group, who is shown to have a heart. Very sharp and loves singing his tailor-made solos. Wears a retainer and has a slight speech impediment. Energetic and clever. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 40. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: F3.

Jinx: The shy one. He lives his life terrified and doesn't always remember what song comes next. Sparky's stepbrother, he occasionally gets a nosebleed when he sings above an A. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 40. Vocal range top: D6. Vocal range bottom: F3.

Smudge: The worrier. He worries about the props, the running order, and always assumes the audience won't like him. Has a chronic nervous stomach and is oddly reluctant to perform. Wears glasses, which hides his good looks and sex appeal. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 40. Vocal range top: G5. Vocal range bottom: F3.

Requirement for proof of vaccination/negative test.

Everyone entering the audition venue (i.e., venue employees, Equity members, non-members, casting personnel, creatives, producers, musicians, COVID Safety Managers, etc.) will be required to undergo a symptom check and provide one of the following prior to entry into the venue:

- Proof of full vaccination. “Fully vaccinated,” as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine. Please note that Timber Lake Playhouse is only casting fully vaccinated performers.

Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks and respirators (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. The time spent unmasked should be as minimal as possible. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth). If the risk level for Carroll County is trending upwards and may rise to High (Red) we will contact members with appointments at least 24 hours before the first audition appointment time to let them know there is a chance that the auditions Revised March 14, 2022 may need to be postponed or cancelled. All members with appointments will be notified if the auditions must be postponed or cancelled.

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms. Additional information required in notice:

The audition room is 900 square feet and can accommodate no more than 9 individuals at a time.

The holding room is 1100 square feet and can accommodate no more than 30 individuals at a time.
