SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis' 2026-27 Season (see breakdown). An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Some roles will be understudied. Equity’s contracts prohibit discrimination. Please prepare two contrasting monologues not to exceed 3 minutes total. If you would like to be considered for WHITE CHRISTMAS, please prepare one monologue and a 32-bar cut of a traditional musical theatre song or standard with clearly marked sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

SEEKING:

• LOUISA/JO (she/her): Late Teens-Late 20s. Independent, ambitious, and fiercely determined to pursue her dreams of becoming a writer. Jo is tomboyish, outspoken, and adventurous, with a strong sense of justice and loyalty, but also self-critical and quick tempered. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy and brief stage violence.
• MEG (she/her): Early 20s-Late 20s. The eldest March sister, responsible, nurturing, and traditional but vibrant and full of romantic dreams. Meg is thoughtful, compassionate, and devoted but also sometimes vain and longing for the ease of wealth that she never had. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• BETH (she/her): Teens-Early 20s. Quiet, gentle, and musical. She is shy, selfless, and deeply empathetic. She does not dream of a life outside of her home and family, an inward girl, never a woman.
• AMY (she/her): Teens-Early 20s. The youngest sister who is impatient, artistic, vivacious, charming. Often self-centered and vengeful, but also spirited, creative, determined and loving. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy and brief stage violence.
• MARMEE (she/her): 40s-50s. The mother of the March sisters is wise, nurturing, and compassionate, resilient, and patient. She guides her daughters toward selflessness and level-headedness, but also shares their verve, delight for life, family and independence. Doubles as AUNT MARCH.
• AUNT MARCH (she/her): 70s. Fussy, rich, judgmental. Doubles as MARMEE.
• LAURIE (he/him): Late Teens-Late 20s. Wealthy, charming neighbor and close friend of the March sisters. He is adventurous, mischievous, and impulsive, with a playful spirit and a love for music and literature. Despite his privileged upbringing, Laurie is kind-hearted, loyal, and deeply devoted to the March family, especially Jo. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• JOHN (he/him): Late 20s. Laurie's tutor and later Meg's husband. He is intelligent, earnest, hardworking, and respectful, with a strong sense of duty and integrity. This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy. Doubles as MR. LAURENCE/MR. MARCH, and FRIEDRICH.
• MR. LAURENCE/MR. MARCH (he/him): 50’s-70’s. Laurie’s prickly grandfather / Jo’s father. Doubles as JOHN.
• FRIEDRICH (he/him): 40s. Professor Friedrich Bhaer is a sunny, generous German immigrant and intellectual. He is cultured, cheerful and kind-hearted, with a love for literature and philosophy. He embodies principles of intellect, integrity, and genuine affection. Doubles as JOHN.

• BOB WALLACE (he/him): Late 20s-Late 30s. A superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well. A major singing star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. Baritone. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• PHIL DAVIS (he/him): Late 20s-Late 30s. A song-and-dance comic performer. The fun-loving, go-getting song-and-dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown and operator who is determined to see his friend happy, even if it requires scheming and outright deception. Bari-Tenor. Strong jazz and tap-dancer. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• BETTY HAYNES (she/her): Mid 20s-Late 30s. A femme singer of quiet beauty and charm. The sensible, responsible half of the upcoming song-and-dance team, The Haynes Sisters. Destined to be a star in her own right, she is nonetheless hesitant to take the spotlight for herself. Rich Chest Mix with Soprano Extension. Moves well. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• JUDY HAYNES (she/her): Early-Late 20s. A major song-and-dance performer. The younger, more ambitious, slightly scheming Haynes sister. Chest Mix. Strong jazz and tap-dancer. NOTE: This role requires brief moments of physical intimacy.
• GENERAL HENRY WAVERLY (he/him): Late 50s-Mid 60s. A retired U.S. Army General, adjusting to returning to civilian life in post World War II America. Once a powerful leader, he now struggles to run an Inn in Vermont. Beneath his curmudgeonly military exterior lies a warm, compassionate man in need of family and love. With the exception of one line, a non-singing role.
• MARTHA WATSON (she/her): Late 40s-Mid 60s. Once a Broadway star, now the general’s housekeeper at the Inn, Martha has a very dry, wry, wisecracking sense of humor. Bighearted but completely unsentimental, she runs the General’s life in spite of his protestations. Clarion Belt Voice.
• EZEKIEL FOSTER/ANNOUNCER/SNORING MAN/AS CAST (he/him): Mid 40s-Late 50s. As Ezekiel, the ultimate taciturn New Englander, who helps out at the inn and takes life at a very slow pace.
• MIKE/TRAIN CONDUCTOR/AS CAST (he/him): Mid 20s-Late 30s. As Mike, Bob and Phil’s Stage Manager. Has a tendency to be overdramatic and completely hysterical, but will get things done. Never seen without his whistle and clipboard, which he uses to attempt to keep order.
• TESSIE/AS CAST (she/her): 20s-30s. As Tessie, Bob and Phil’s assistant.
• RHODA/MRS. SNORING MAN/AS CAST (she/her): Mid 20s-Early 30s. As Rhoda, one of Bob and Phil’s chorus girls.
• RALPH SHELDRAKE/JIMMY/AS CAST (he/him): Mid-Late 30s. As Ralph, an Army buddy of Bob and Phil’s, now a major television executive with the Ed Sullivan Show. Fast-talking, New York professional. As Jimmy, the proprietor of “Jimmy’s Back Room,” a none-too-classy nightclub. Baritone.
• RITA/CIGARETTE GIRL/AS CAST (she/her): Mid 20s-Early 30s. As Rita, one of Bob and Phil’s chorus girls.
• SUSAN WAVERLY/AS CAST (she/her): 9-12. The General’s granddaughter, Susan is a lovable and outgoing kid. She is very smart, wise beyond her years, and cares deeply about her grandfather. Once bitten hard by the showbiz bug, she demonstrates everything that is winning in the ultimate child performer. Strong Belt. Moves well.
