Webster’s Bitch

By Jacqueline Bircher

Director – Daniella Wheelock

1st Rehearsal - Jan. 2, 2024

Perf. - Jan. 25 - Feb. 11, 2024

The regional premiere of a new play about the gender and power dynamics at the workplace, and the meaning of words. This play will be produced in the 85-seat Ted Jones Playhouse. All roles available.

Seeking:

GWEN – 30’s, female identified, any race. A lexicographer at Webster's Dictionary. She craves stability and revels in the harmless drudgery of her profession. When she is in her element, debating and defending words and definitions, she is passionate, proactive, and incisive.

ELLIE - 20s, female identified, any race. Gwen's younger sister. An energetic, tenacious, bleeding heart Zillennial who has never quite figured out when or how to keep her mouth shut. Even in a room full of dictionary writers, Ellie is just as smart as anyone else - she thrives on chaos, but is confident in herself with a spectacular, quick wit.

NICK - 30s’, male identified. An accomplished lexicographer with an academic background. He is the quiet, benevolent office gossip, though he’d deny ever holding that role and hates to be at the center of the drama.

JOYCE – 50’s-60’s, female identified, any race. The Senior Editor and Frank’s right-hand woman. Academic, discerning, and somewhat socially awkward, she expects excellence from herself and everyone around her. Joyce is a giant in her field, teaching high-level graduate linguistics and writing scholarly papers.

FRANK – 50’s-60’s, male identified, any race. The Editor-in-Chief. Charismatic and buoyant, the kind of man who can charm the paper off the walls. An ambitious, forward-thinking, and sometimes manipulative company man. But, as he finds himself in an unflattering situation, he defaults to self-preservation above all.

The Play That Goes Wrong

By Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, & Jonathan Sayer

Director – Chad Rabinovitz

1st Rehearsal - Feb. 27, 2024

Perf. - Mar. 21 - Apr. 6, 2024 (possible extension to April 14th)

This highly physical, theatrical comedy will be produced in the 150-seat Waldron Auditorium. All roles available.

Seeking:

Note: All characters may be involved in pre-show and intermission activity and all roles are highly physical. Experience with improvisation and physical comedy are plusses. All characters speak with a British accent while in the play. All characters are of any ethnicity and are between 25-50 years old.

ANNIE - The Cornley Drama Society’s stage manager. A little bit green and a little bit frantic, she is tasked with handling every disaster, including going on as the leading lady when Sandra is knocked out. This is the biggest show the company has ever produced and making sure it goes right is of utmost importance to her.

TREVOR - The Cornley Drama Society’s sound and lighting operator. Rough around the edges with a soft spot for Duran Duran. Not a huge fan of the show but willing to do what it takes to make everything work including going on for the leading lady.

JONATHAN/CHARLES HAVERSHAM - Jonathan is a Cornley Drama Society member who is playing Charles Haversham, the murder victim in the play. Jonathan is eager to perform this role well but has a terrible sense of timing and his playing dead is constantly undermined by other actors stepping on him and dropping him. A novice performer, he believes that if he doesn't look at the audience, they can't see him.

SANDRA/FLORENCE COLLEYMOORE – Sandra is a Cornley Drama Society member playing Florence Colleymoore, wife of Charles and lover of Cecil. Dramatic and posturing in her performance, Sandra is knocked out mid-first act and when she comes to, she is furious that she's been replaced and tries everything she can to get back in the show.

CHRIS/INSPECTOR CARTER – Chris is the head of the Cornley Drama Society, he directed the play and is starring as Inspector Carter. The Inspector is British with John Cleese tendencies.

ROBERT/THOMAS COLLEYMOORE – Robert is a Cornley Drama Society member playing Thomas Colleymoore, an old friend of Charles Haversham. A hunting and shooting man, boisterous and robust.

DENNIS/PERKINS - Dennis is a Cornley Drama Society member playing Perkins the butler. He has a hard time memorizing his lines and pronouncing difficult words. He doesn't understand or enjoy the audience's laughter.

MAX/CECIL HAVERSHAM/ARTHUR THE GARDNER – Max is a Cornley Drama Society member playing Arthur the Gardener and Cecil Haversham, brother to Charles and lover of Florence. Max is a novice performer who is entranced by the audience and his own performance.

The Break

Music by Michael Kooman, Book & Lyrics by Chris Dimond

Director TBA

1st Rehearsal - May 14, 2024

Perf. - June 6-23, 2024

The Break is a world premiere, which will be produced in the 150-seat Waldron Auditorium. This is an anti-rom-com with a rock score. All roles available.

Seeking:

SAM – late 20’s, female identified, any race, rock belter. Smart, sassy, and sarcastic. Trying to overcome her insecurities and self-consciousness. Her humor always comes from a place of deep kindness. She would have been described as a tomboy growing up. Still a bit repressed as a result of her Catholic upbringing in Texas, though she's ditched the accent. Also plays: Randy, Bono, Women 1 -7, Rodrigo.

CHARLIE – late 20’s male identified, any race, tenor. Playful, sensitive, and creative. Kind of a dork, but in a charming way. Passionate about his music, though he may lack the drive to ever truly make it. He sees himself as the more emotional one in the relationship, but there's an aloofness to him as well. Uses humor as a defense mechanism. Also plays: Sam's Roommate, Tommy, Men 1-4,

Clevermoniker, Sister Mary Tomas, Austin, Sam's Vagina.
