- GONERIL, female presenting, 20s–40s, eldest daughter, buttoned up
- REGAN, female presenting, 20s–40s, more wild and wily than her sisters
- CORDELIA, 20s, female presenting, bright and bold in her innocence. Role will double with FIRST SERVANT
- GLOUCESTER, 50s–70s, male presenting, good natured but blinded by his pride
- EDMUND, 20s–40s, any gender, a schemer, smarter than anyone onstage
- EDGAR, 20s–40s, male presenting, the perfect son
- KENT, 30s–50s, female presenting, hardened assistant to Lear, will disguise in male drag
- ALBANY, 30s–50s, male presenting, unassuming at first then hardened by war
- CORNWALL, 20s–40s, male presenting, a muscular typical leader. Role will also double with DOCTOR and FIRST GUARD
