PREPARATION

The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Please prepare up to two pieces of material. Your entire audition including introduction, time with pianist, and performing your piece(s) should total around 5 minutes.

For AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, please prepare a monologue(s) from a modern or mid-20th-century play. Keep each piece one minute or less. No Shakespeare or classical works (e.g., Molière, Greek/Roman texts). Contemporary realism or heightened realism is welcome.

Bring a physical headshot and resume. These will not be returned. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

JUSTICE LAWRENCE WARGRAVE: Age 60s–70s. Male. A retired High Court judge. Highly intelligent, authoritative, and composed, with a sharp moral certainty. Appears rational and calm, even as events become increasingly disturbing.

VERA CLAYTHORNE: Age late 20s–30s. Female. A former governess. Intelligent, capable, and initially self-possessed, but deeply affected by guilt and fear as the story progresses.

PHILIP LOMBARD: Age 30s–40s. Male. A former soldier of fortune. Charming, pragmatic, and morally ambiguous. Cool under pressure, with a dangerous edge.

DR. EDWARD ARMSTRONG: Age 40s–50s. Male. A respected physician. Rational and analytical, attempting to maintain order as events spiral. His authority erodes as fear takes hold.

EMILY BRENT: Age 50s–70s. Female. Deeply religious and judgmental. Cold, self-righteous, and unyielding in her moral views. A chilling presence who believes herself entirely blameless.

GENERAL JOHN MACARTHUR: Age 60s–70s. Male. A retired military officer. World-weary, introspective, and burdened by the past. Gradually withdraws from the group as the tension escalates.

WILLIAM BLORE: Age 40s–50s. Male. A former police inspector. Blunt, suspicious, and defensive. Used to control and authority but increasingly unnerved as events unfold. Strong physical presence helpful.

THOMAS ROGERS: Age 30s–50s. Male. Middle-aged and competent house-parlor man. Proper, discreet, and quietly anxious. Appears efficient and controlled, but cracks under pressure.

ETHEL ROGERS: Age 30s–50s. Female. The housekeeper. Timid, impressionable, and highly strung. Prone to anxiety and fear from the outset.

ANTHONY MARSTON: Age 20s–30s. Male. A wealthy, reckless young man. Carefree, impulsive, and disturbingly casual about consequences.
