Hairspray, Jr.' Takes the Stage at the Everett TheatreThe historic Everett Theatre, located at 47 W. Main Street in Middletown, wraps up its summer camp series with 'Hairspray, Jr.', a family-friendly adaptation of the popular musical.Set in Baltimore during the early 1960s, 'Hairspray, Jr.' tells the story of plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad, who dreams of dancing on the 'Corny Collins Show.' During a time of racial division in Baltimore as well as in the media, Tracy stands out from the crowd because of her support of integration. When she finally achieves her dream, Tracy must fight for the right of people of all racial backgrounds to be able to dance on TV with her.The show is packed with catchy songs and high-energy dances, featuring famous numbers such as 'Good Morning Baltimore' and 'You Can't Stop the Beat.'The cast stars Grace Dermott as Tracy Turnblad, Nate Williams as TV celebrity Link Larkin, and Olivia Court as Tracy's friend, Penny Pingleton. The cast also features Ava Straub as DJ Motormouth Maybelle, Moulai Njie as Maybelles son and TV dancer Seaweed J. Stubbs, Nicholas Ruggeri as TV host Corny Collins, Zephyr Doyle as Tracy's mother, Edna Turnblad, and Chase Dove as Edna's husband, Wilbur. The Corny Collins Show's resident diva, Amber von Tussle, is played by Sadie Sieglen, and her equally malicious mother, Velma, is portrayed by Izzy Corraliza.'Hairspray, Jr.' opens Friday, August 16 at 7:30pm, with a second performance on Saturday, August 17 at 7:30pm.
