About this studio
STREB Extreme Action, founded by MacArthur Fellow Elizabeth Streb, is a Brooklyn company of experimental performers who slam, fly, fall and crash to build what it calls a new language of movement, and it has been performing for more than 40 years under the motto 'we dance, you sweat'. Its home is SLAM, the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics, at 51 North 1st Street in Brooklyn, which doubles as a public class space. The Lab runs kids classes and camps, adult classes and workshops, the Espana-STREB Trapeze Academy, birthday parties, community programming and studio rentals, with activities including PopAction, trampoline and flying trapeze for ages 5 and up. Free open house days let newcomers try the equipment, and summer camp registration is offered. The touring company continues to present work in theatres, including a run of Do Not Try This At Home at the New Victory Theater.
