Cora Dance

Cora Dance is a non-profit dance organization founded by Shannon Hummel and based in Red Hook, Brooklyn at 177 Dwight St, with a second branch, Cora Dance Alleghany, at 510 Main St in Clifton Forge, Virginia. Its stated purpose is to create dance experiences while removing the barriers that keep people from accessing the art form. All studio classes are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis so that students can train regardless of ability to pay, and materials such as the student handbook are published in English, Spanish and Chinese. Alongside the studio program, Cora runs the Cora Youth Company, enrichment programs in the community, workshops, community performances, apprenticeships and internships, partnerships with other professional dance organizations, and pre-professional and professional performance opportunities for its most advanced students. A professional company presents original work, and the organization also runs fellowship initiatives. The 2026-27 season opened registration in late September with classes beginning in October.
