About this studio
M.A.D.D. Rhythms - Making A Difference Dancing Rhythms - is a Chicago-based tap dance company and non-profit organization now marking its 25th anniversary. It comprises a professional performing company with a repertoire including Hoofin' It, Tribute to Nina Simone and Beyond a Shuffle, plus the M.A.D.D. Rhythms Tap Academy, which offers in-person and virtual classes for all ages including a youth program. The academy teaches tap as music, movement language and storytelling, emphasizing musicality, technique, improvisation and the cultural and historical lineage of the form, and encourages dancers to create rather than imitate. The organization centers the unsung founders of tap and honors improvisation through its cypher tradition.
