Previews For Circle Theatre's ART Begin 3/19

Circle Theatre, a professional, contemporary regional theatre company in Sundance Square, will begin previews of ART on March 19, 2009. ART preview performances are on March 19, 20, and 21 (matinee), and the show officially opens Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Circle's production of ART will be accompanied by an art exhibit in the theatre's newly updated lobby gallery space, featuring works by artist Robert Beverly. Beverly works creatively with wood, glass, metal and concrete mediums.

The work examines societal prejudices and attitudes while providing memorable musical moments. Some of the best known songs from Carousel include 'June is Bustin' Out All Over', 'You'll Never Walk Alone', and 'If I Loved You'.

Books Alive! is a dynamic interactive program, which introduces children to the wonderful world of books, the joy of reading and stimulates a desire for lifelong literacy through a professional musical play, adapted from the featured book. It is available on location or as a field trip to Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center (KVPAC).

Based upon the book by Louis Sachar, Sideways Stories from Wayside School was adapted by the stage by John Olive and is directed by Mark Adams. The show will be performed at the Main Street Theater (Chelsea Market) on Sautrdays April 18 &25 and May 2 & 16 at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The show is recommended for Kindergarten-aged kids and up.

Clifford Odet's Awake and Sing! will be performed at the Main Street Theater (Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd., Houston, Texast 77005) from May 7 - June 7, 2009. Previews will be taking place on May 2, 3, & 6. There will be no performances on May 8. Opening night for this Cheryl L. Kaplan-directed show will be on May 7 at 7:30 pm. The show will be performend on Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 pm.

Jubilee Theatre continues its celebration of African-American culture with its 2008-2009 season and August Wilson's The Piano Lesson. An American icon, August Wilson depicted the human condition like no other playwright of his time. The Piano Lesson, the fourth in a cycle of ten plays chronicling the African-American experience throughout the 20th century, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play in 1990.

Casting has been announced for Casa Manana's production of High School Musical. Michael Kadin Craig and Jenny Gulley will lead the cast as Troy and Gabriella. Cameron Wade will play Sharpay Evans and Logan Hart will portray Ryan Evans. The rest of the cast will include Cyndi Steele-Harrod, Brian Mathis, Erica Dorfler, Luke Longacre, Sarah Zeringue, Cori Lynne, Cody Jenkins and Christopher Messina.
