Godspell is a joyful, ensemble-driven musical based on the Gospel of Matthew. Told through parables, storytelling, music, and movement, the piece explores themes of community, generosity, forgiveness, and shared responsibility. Rather than focusing on spectacle, this production emphasizes clear storytelling, collaboration, and authentic human connection. Wedgwood Arts’ production will be intentionally crafted, actor-centered, and grounded in ensemble work. Performers will sing, move, and tell stories together, often breaking the fourth wall and engaging directly with one another and the audience. Musical styles range from folk and pop to gospel-inspired sounds, requiring strong musicianship, flexibility, and comfort performing as part of a group. Casting is inclusive and open. Performers of all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities, religions, and identities are encouraged to audition. This is a non-paid community theatre production, and participants should be prepared for a collaborative rehearsal process that values preparation, presence, and shared ownership of the work.
