Denton Community Theatre Presents CAROUSEL 3/27-4/5

By:

The story revolves around the anti-hero, Billy Bigelow, his tender wife, Julie, and their friends in 1870's New England. The work examines societal prejudices and attitudes while providing memorable musical moments. Some of the best known songs from Carousel include "June is Bustin' Out All Over", "You'll Never Walk Alone", and "If I Loved You".

This Denton Community Theatre musical is being directed by Sharon Veselic, with musical direction by Ray Staniszewski. Ms Veselic is excited about the challenges of staging this poignant musical from the 1940's to appeal to a 2009 audience. She has a passion for classic musical theatre but is not afraid to explore her curiosity of "what if"? The production is being staged in grand concert style with Mr. Staniszewski directing a full orchestra on stage.

The set is being designed by nationally known Philip Lamb who is creating a sleepy seaside town from the late 1800's with a very modern art form - projections. Ms. Veselic also recruited choreographer Malissa McGee who is well known in the area and is familiar with large casts and big challenges. The cast includes many of the Metroplex's best and brightest performers. DCT joins Ms. Veselic in her excitement for audiences to experience this something-old-is-new-again production. "Some will come and see it for the first time, others will come and remember when they first saw it decades ago," stated Ms. Veselic, "or even when it opened on the stage in 1945...That's what's wonderful about doing revivals, your audience is electric with people who are looking back at memories or creating one."

Performances are March 27, 28 and April 2,3,4 at 7:30 pm, and March 28,29 and April 4,5 at 2 pm. All performances are at the historic Campus Theatre located at 214 W. Hickory in Denton.
