Photo Flash: First Look at BREAD at WaterTower Theatre
by BWW News Desk - April 18, 2018
Bread is nourishment. Bread is legacy. Bread is life itself. And bread is money. This world premiere by award-winning Dallas-born actress and playwright Regina Taylor weaves a compelling family drama of hopes, fears, thwarted dreams, and dark secrets against a turbulent backdrop of racial tension and social upheaval. It is early 2017; a time of change. James and Ruth are a middle class couple from Oak Cliff, a historic south Dallas neighborhood on the verge of gentrification. They plan a bright future for their teenage son and his soon-to-be-born brother. But when James' brother Jeb returns home, buried family tensions resurface and the past casts a troubling shadow across an uncertain future. Taylor's stirring, timely story of identity and family asks: How can we prepare the next generation for what's to come?

by Christina Hoth - April 15, 2018
Thus far, 2018 has proven to be an interesting year for female Americans. As a gender we are banding together behind causes like the #meToo movement; we are shedding light on inequalities when it comes to serious subjects such as consent, recognition, and equal pay. It is shocking the stories of female degradation that are coming forth, and there is still much work to do. One Dallas/Ft. Worth up and coming Director, Marilyn Setu, has recently taken it upon herself to promote fellow female artists by hiring them for her production of Little Women: The Musical at The Firehouse Theatre in Farmers Branch.

BWW Review: WAITRESS at Music Hall At Fair Park
by Kyle Christopher West - April 03, 2018
At first glance (or at least throughout the first act), Broadway's hit musical WAITRESS, which opened last week at the Musical Hall at Fair Park, seems to be sugar-coated and overstuffed. With its country-pop tunes and slow-but-sweet pacing, the first course lacks substance, instead offering just enough fluff to spoil your appetite. But, when the second portion is finally served, a meatier musical unfolds full of heart.
DFW Music Director Launches Audition Coaching Program
by Kyle Christopher West - April 03, 2018
What's the best way to banish audition jitters? By being prepared and confident. Rebecca Lowrey can determine exactly what you need to show in an audition so that all you have to worry about is looking great (and fighting traffic). But first, an important distinction: A vocal coach is not the same as a voice teacher. Traditional voice lessons work best on a consistent, long-term schedule, while Rebecca's audition prep session can fit into your schedule on an as-needed basis. All experience levels are welcome.
