Disney Theatrical Productions and the Orange County Performing Arts Center announced today that tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of DISNEY'S THE LION KING will go on sale to the public on Sunday, February 7 at 10 a.m. Orange County's most eagerly awaited return will once
again leap onto the Segerstrom Hall stage on Wednesday, May 26 for a limited engagement of three weeks through Sunday, June 13. The opening night is Friday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. The show's seven-week premiere engagement in 2005 played a sold-out run. This North American Tour is currently one of seven productions running worldwide along with New York, London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Paris, and Las Vegas.

Now in its second sold-out decade in New York, the global phenomenon is the winner of more than 70 major awards worldwide, including the 1998 Tony Award® and NY Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, the 1999 Grammy® for Best Musical Show Album and the 1999 Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Choreography and Best Costume Design. The show has been seen by over 50 million people in 13 different countries.

Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony Award for Best
Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING. Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who codirected the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Taymor and Hans Zimmer.

In Orange County, THE LION KING will play Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m., Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 1 p.m. and a Thursday matinee on May 27 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices start as low as $23.25. Additionally, Premium Ticket Packages, which include a prime seat location, a commemorative souvenir program and an exclusive merchandise item, are also available. Beginning Sunday, February 7 at 10 a.m., tickets will be available online at OCPAC.org, by calling 714.556.2787 or at the Center's Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa. Orders for groups of 20 or more may be placed by calling the Group Services office at 714.755.0236. The TTY number is 714.556.2746.
