Duke Ellington's QUEENIE PIE to Make Chicago Premiere, 2/15-3/5

In one of its most ambitious projects to date, Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will collaborate with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO) to present the Chicago premiere of Duke Ellington's only opera "Queenie Pie," running February 15 - March 5 at the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Street. Tickets ($35 - $125) are now on sale.

Casting is nearly complete for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's world-premiere production of The Way West by Mona Mansour. Ensemble member Amy Morton directs a cast of six featuring ensemble member Martha Lavey with Ira Amyx, Caroline Neff, Deirdre O'Connell, Zoe Perry and Gabe Ruiz. This wryly funny play-with music-about the contemporary quirks of our American spirit is the recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. The Way West begins previews April 3, 2014 (opening night is April 13; press performances are April 12 at 3pm and April 15 at 7:30pm) and runs through June 8, 2014 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).

The Mental Notion Society presents their rendition of Luigi Pirandello's classic, "Six Characters in Search of an Author." A cast continues their preparation to stage a theatrical play, while suddenly six characters interrupt to not only question the aesthetic of theatre but the paths of peoples' lives. Originally performed in 1921, this classic play will return to a Chicago stage for five performances. Featuring popular songs like "Electricity", "I'm Just a Bill", "Interjections" and "Conjunction Junction", the story is set in a fading diner where the owner and her wacky friends brainstorm ways to save their run-down diner.
