The musical theatre treasure CABARET kicks off the Marriott Theatre's 2014 season, opening tonight, January 22 and running through March 16 at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. CABARET is Kander and Ebb's legendary musical about English cabaret performer Sally Bowles, American writer Clifford Bradshaw, and the decadence of 1929 Berlin. The Highland Park Players presents Schoolhouse Rock Live Too!, an energetic, colorful, fast-paced musical. The show draws its inspiration from the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning cartoon series, popular in the 1970s. Far from outmoded, however, Schoolhouse Rock Live Too! is full of modern lyrics, catchy melodies, upbeat dance sections, and witty banter. Featuring popular songs like "Electricity", "I'm Just a Bill", "Interjections" and "Conjunction Junction", the story is set in a fading diner where the owner and her wacky friends brainstorm ways to save their run-down diner.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces casting for Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream, a 75-minute abridged production of William Shakespeare's whimsical comedy of misplaced young passions and magical mischief. This new adaptation by Jeff Award-winning director David H. Bell provides a quality, family-friendly introduction to Shakespeare with special opportunities for audiences to interact with the actors at every performance. In addition to public performances each Saturday, this production will welcome 1,000 students each day to the Theater's home on Navy Pier during its five-week run in the Courtyard Theater, followed by a tour to schools across the Midwest. Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed for the public Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. from February 22 to March 22 in CST's Courtyard Theater. After each performance, the actors remain on stage for a brief question-and-answer session, before joining the audience in the Lobby for one-on-one conversations and photo opportunities.

Tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 21, the University of Chicago and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance will present On Grace, a work-in-progress staged performance conceived and created by renowned actress/playwright Anna Deavere Smith, in collaboration with cellist Joshua Roman. The performance will be directed by Leonard Foglia. The event is the culmination of Smith's 2014 Presidential Arts Fellowship at UChicago and the first formal collaborative arts partnership between UChicago and Harris Theater.
