SHREK THE MUSICAL to be Staged at Cahn from Jan. 24 to Feb. 1

By:

"SHREK THE MUSICAL" -- the story of the swamp-living, bug-eating ogre and his quest to save a princess from an isolated tower -- will be performed on Northwestern University's Evanston campus Jan. 24 through Feb. 1.

The Broadway musical -- popular with audiences of all ages -- is this year's 72nd Annual Dolphin Show, one of the largest student-produced musicals in the country.

The 2014 production is produced by School of Communication seniors Brandon Johnston and Rachel Marchant and directed by Communication senior Marlee Rose Rich.

It will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24; 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25; 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26; 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31; and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson Street, on the University's Evanston campus.

The show features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. The show debuted on Broadway in December 2008 and is based on the 2001 Dreamworks film and the 1990 book "Shrek!" by William Steig.

Shrek's journey to save his ladylove includes encounters with characters from familiar fairytales and nursery rhymes. Along the way, he also makes new friends and finds true love in an unexpected place. "Shrek" reminds audiences that it is who you are and what you make of life that counts most.

The Dolphin Show celebrates the diverse talents of the Northwestern undergraduates by providing opportunities to learn and excel in all artistic and administrative fields. It presents a professional-caliber production while involving the community through outreach. For historical background information on the Dolphin Show, visit www.nudolphinshow.org/about-dolphin/.

Tickets are $15 to $30 for the general public. Discounts are available for seniors and Northwestern faculty, staff and students with IDs.
