Kitchen Theatre Presents David Ives' VENUS IN FUR, Now thru 2/9

It may be cold outside, but inside the Kitchen Theatre Company it is hot, hot, hot. Starting tonight, January 22nd is David Ives' Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Venus in Fur, a comedy about sexual power, power plays, and the power of Love - the Goddess of Love, that is. The New York Times called it '90 minutes of good, kinky fun.' Preview performances are tonight, January 22, 23, and 24. Opening Night is January 25th, and the play closes February 9.

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2014

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced that applications are open for the fourth summer of retreats for musical theatre writers. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides a writing team with a weeklong residency to work on their musical in a private home near Rhinebeck, New York. There will be eight one-week retreats offered between June 29 and August 31st. Applications are due February 15 and the submission fee is $20. The submitted musical can be at any stage of development, as long as it has not been published or licensed. Bard Fisher Center Receives Major Funding To Support Fellowships Through Live Arts Bard Program

The second season of Live Arts Bard (LAB), a program of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, provides residencies for six American artists and ensembles making work that spans and transcends the fields of theater, performance, dance, music, film, and live art. Spring 2014 resident artists are Sarah Michelson, Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Geoff Sobelle, and Nilaja Sun. John Kelly and Robert Woodruff were LAB resident artists in fall 2013.

Chenango River Theatre Receives Grant from Raymond Foundation

For its 40th Anniversary Mainstage Season in the summer of 2014, the Hangar Theatre will produce four plays that offer audiences a spectrum of experiences representing the best of live theatre. Kicking off the season on June 12 is the Tony Award-winning play Red (June 12-21), a passionate and brilliant study of artist Mark Rothko as he attempts to create the largest commissioned exhibit in modern art. Second in the season lineup is the regional premiere of Around the World in 80 Days (June 26-July 5), featuring an ensemble cast of five actors playing a cast of hundreds as they take the audience on a theatrical adventure based on the classic novel by Jules Verne. Next is the rocking and hilarious musical Little Shop of Horrors (July 10-26), which finds a blood-thirsty plant from outer space taking center stage. The season concludes with the regional premiere of the Pulitzer-nominated play Other Desert Cities (July 31-August 9), in which a family's personal and political demons take the audience on a shocking ride. New York State Council on the Arts to Support Chenango River Theatre in 2014 Season

The Theatre Panel of the NYS Council on the Arts has announced that Chenango River Theatre is one of the select theatres statewide to receive direct funding for General Operating Support for their upcoming 2014 season. The award of $5,000 annually covers two years, extending through the 2015 season.
