In this award-winning classic about the universal struggle for human dignity, a black man in apartheid-era South Africa tries to overcome oppressive work regulations to support his family. Co-creator John Kani performed in the original production and won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Actor. Now, 40 years later, Kani directs his son, Atandwa Kani, in this new international production. In this 1991 off-Broadway triumph, two couples grapple with the mundane (burgers and kites) and the momentous (illness and infidelity) as they try (very hard) to celebrate the Fourth of July at a beach house. Lips Together, Teeth Apart includes a touch of Chekhov with the sly wickedness of McNally. Presented by the Department of Drama in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (SU Drama), Lips Together, Teeth Apart performs February 20 through March 1 in the Storch Theater at the Syracuse Stage/Drama Complex, 820 East Genesee Street. While it has only been open to the public since April of 2014, and fund-raising efforts to complete the conversion of its 72-seat Mainstage space continue, Catskill's Bridge Street Theatre has already proven itself to be a vital part of our region's cultural life. Housed in the old Curtron Factory Building at 44 West Bridge Street, just across Catskill Creek from Main Street, it has been presenting surprising new events almost every weekend - theater, magic acts, cabaret performances, classical, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and jug band concerts, art installations, a Haunted House, even a celebrity appearance by actress Patty Duke - and bringing new life (and foot traffic) to Catskill's West Bridge Street Corridor.

Magick Balay, star of the SyFy Channel's close-up magic show Close Up Kings will be performing in Catskill and Windham, New York on Sunday, February 15th. Magick has been entertaining audiences across America for over two decades, appearing in top venues such as the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, and he has performed for Michael Jackson, Wayne Gretzky, Britney Spears, Derek Jeter, Neil Patrick Harris, and Spike Lee, to name a few. At these upcoming sleight-of-hand magic shows, Magick will be joined by two other New York City-based magicians, Dave Murillo and Steve Allen Dane. The line-up will also include local magician Sean Doolan of Windham.

Powerhouse Theater Training Program at Vassar College Now Accepting Summer Applications

When they were still aspiring young artists Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar, TV star Josh Radnor, and Tony Award-nominated actress Melissa Erico each spent a transformative summer in the Powerhouse Theater Training Program. Now in its 31st year, the renowned annual program at Vassar College will run from June 19-July 26, 2015 and is currently accepting applications. Participants choose a curriculum focused on acting, playwriting, or directing, and together form a Company, which performs works for the public. The program is available to rising high school seniors through college-age students, as part of the prestigious Powerhouse Theater collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film.
