Nadine Sierra Opens Mostly Mozart (July 25) and Paris Opera Seasons by BWW News Desk
- July 25, 2016 On the heels of her Tanglewood debut in Carmina Burana with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, fast-rising soprano Nadine Sierra—who, after four major debuts last season alone, is quickly becoming a fixture at important houses around the world—returns to New York to debut at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival on July 25, in an all-star opening night “operatic fantasy” called The Illuminated Heart. After an auspicious debut as Gilda at the Met last season, she returns this fall for a house role debut as Zerlina inDon Giovanni, and in the spring makes both her role and Live in HD debuts as Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo under the baton of James Levine. Following last season's Paris Opera debut, she opens the 2016-17 season at the Palais Garnier with the role of Flavia in a new production of Cavalli's Eliogabalo. This is one of three Paris Opera productions to feature her this season: she also appears as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Gilda inRigoletto at the Opéra Bastille, where she sang her first Zerlina last season. Other highlights in the new season include a return to Zurich Opera—where she won acclaim for her 2015 house and role debuts as the title character in Lucia di Lammermoor—to sing her first performances as Elvira in Bellini's I Puritani.
Opera Philadelphia Announces Upcoming Season Schedule; Tickets on Sale, 8/1 by BWW News Desk
- July 25, 2016 Tickets go on sale on Monday, August 1, for Opera Philadelphia's 2016-2017 Season, including two September productions: the World Premiere of Breaking the Waves, composer Missy Mazzoli's opera inspired by Lars von Trier's searing Oscar-nominated 1996 film; and Puccini's grand Turandot starring soprano Christine Goerke in the title role. Tickets are also available for a series of special fall events surrounding these productions, including lectures, recitals, film screenings, brunches, backstage tours, and social events. Opera fans can also choose their seats for two spring productions at the Academy of Music: Rossini's Tancredi (February 2017), featuring star mezzo Stephanie Blythe's highly anticipated first appearance in the title role; and a new production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (April–May 2017).

- July 25, 2016 SAN FRANCISCO (July 22, 2016)—San Francisco Opera's 2016–17 Season opens Friday, September 9 with a gala performance of Umberto Giordano's Andrea Chénier in a new production by Sir David McVicar. Company Music Director Nicola Luisotti leads a stellar cast, including three international stars making their San Francisco Opera debuts in the demanding lead roles: South Korean tenor Yonghoon Lee in the title role, Italian soprano Anna Pirozzi as Maddalena di Coigny and Georgian baritone George Gagnidze as Carlo Gérard. The opening night festivities are distinguished by San Francisco Opera Guild's glamorous Opera Ball 2016: La Révolution et L'Amour and BRAVO! Club's Annual Opening Night Gala. The opening of the Company's 94th season also marks the beginning of Matthew Shilvock's inaugural season as General Director. Shilvock is the seventh General Director in the Company's history.

This August, Carriageworks presents Sydney Chamber Opera's (SCO) new production of composer Jack Symonds's and librettist Pierce Wilcox's Notes from Underground. Directed by Patrick Nolan and designed by Genevieve Blanchett it will be presented over five nights on 13, 15, 17, 19 and 20 August. The last time the company presented this opera it was for their 2011 inaugural production at Sydney's Cellblock Theatre. This production established SCO as one of the most important and distinctive new voices in Australian opera.

- July 19, 2016 SAN FRANCISCO, July 13, 2016 – The Merola Opera Program's Summer Festival concludes with its 2016 artists performing in the Merola Grand Finale Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 pm at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. Conductor Rory Macdonald will lead the orchestra and 2016 Merola Apprentice Stage Director Aria Umezawa will stage the program, featuring works by Bizet, Bernstein, Donizetti, Offenbach, Mozart, J. Strauss, Puccini, Berlioz, Britten, Humperdinck, Flotow, Glück, and Rossini. The performance is a culmination of the 12-week Merola Opera training program, and all 23 of the 2016 Merola singers will perform, under the coaching and direction of their fellow artists.
