Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra to Perform Concert, 2/28 by BWW News Desk
- February 24, 2016 February 23, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia The annual tradition continues when the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) shares the stage with the Richmond Symphony musicians on Sunday, February 28 at 4:00pm. Together they will play side by side, creating a 120 member orchestra! Hear selections from Sibelius, Dvo?ák, and Tchaikovsky in a concert featuring RSYO cellist, Jason Hwang. Hwang is the winner of the 2015 Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Concerto Competition. The performance will be held at the Carpenter Theatre Dominion Arts Center and led by Richmond Symphony Music Director Steven Smith.

Emerging out of the fertile environment of the Yale School of Music and Bang on a Can fellowships, five gifted performing artists (Ashley Bathgate, Florent Ghys, James Moore, Eleonore Oppenheim, and Owen Weaver) formed friendships and a new band, led by composer/performer Florent Ghys. - February 20, 2016 Orange County, Calif.-Feb. 3, 2016-Pacific Symphony partners with South Coast Chinese Cultural Center/Irvine Chinese School to present the "2016 Lantern Festival" commemorating the end of the Lunar New Year celebration. This free, family-friendly Lantern Festival-featuring the traditional dragon dance, riddles and lantern making usually associated with the end of the Lunar New Year-takes place tonight, Feb. 20, from 3-6 p.m., in the lobby of the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, prior to the Symphony's opera production of Puccini's "Turandot." Musical highlights include string quartet performances by Pacific Symphony and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as Chinese folk dance and customary Chinese songs sung by the Irvine Chinese Chorus. Lanterns on display are curated by artist and curator Trinh Mai and include lanterns created by Irvine Chinese School students, as well as seniors from Nguoi Viet who are part of the Bowers Museum Treasures program.

- February 16, 2016 Silent film star Buster Keaton was a master of turning wrong-place-wrong-time situations into absolute hilarity, and perhaps nowhere is that more on display than in “The Goat”. Keaton's character finds himself on a “wanted” poster just because he was standing near a photographer, and that's just the beginning of his troubles in this 1921 classic. Now you can see the movie in all its glory at Dallas City Performance Hall with a new score by Jon Kull, whose film credits include “Avatar” and “The Hunger Games”. Before the movie starts, the Dallas Chamber Symphony will play works by Hindemith and Moravec to warm you up.
