Ute Lemper and Paulo Coelho Release New Album, THE 9 SECRETS

song cycle composed and sung by Lemper, set to words by Coelho from his 2012 novel Manuscript Found in Accra, the thematic content of which may be encapsulated in the lines, “After lying undiscovered for over 700 years, a manuscript holding the answers to questions about life and humanity is unearthed. / Simple questions about our lives torn between happiness and sorrow and defined by hope, intelligence and desire to love as much as the capacity to hate and destroy.” Coelho himself is featured on two tracks—see below for track list. In celebration, Lemper will perform the piece in its entirety in a fully staged production at Symphony Space in New York City on May 13, tickets and information here.
Vermont Symphony Orchestra to Perform Commissioned World Premiere, 3/20

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra continues its season with two concerts and a pair of Ludwigs. The first performance will be held at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington on March 19, 8:00 pm. This concert represents the fourth in a series of five finalizing on April 30. The second, will be held at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland on March 20, 3:00 pm.

Also featuring captivating Canadian pianist Ian Parker as a guest soloist, the program will include Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini and Symphonic Dances, considered by many to be the summary of his musical genius.

Music Director Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony continue their annual exploration of world orchestral music traditions this season with Notes from Vietnam, Today, February 12, 2016, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre. Featured will be Emmy Award-winning composer performer Vân-Ánh Võ, who will give the world premiere of her Lullaby for a Country, performing on the ?àn tranh (Vietnamese zither), ?àn B?u (monochord), and vocals. In addition, TV and Broadway star and filmmaker Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, Modern Family) will narrate Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Completing the program will be Dvo?ák's Carnival Overture. The Symphony's Notes from . . . series has become a popular mainstay of the Bay Area music scene and annually explores symphonic music both new and traditional from cultures that may be less well known to audiences. Past Notes from . . . programs have focused on music from Mexico, Persia, the Philippines, China and the Middle East, among others. Free lobby entertainment, no-host drinks and pre-concert talk begin at 7 pm. And the concert is sponsored in part by California Waste Solutions. Fans who have missed local roots band Yankee Bravo will have an opportunity to see them perform soon.  Officially on hiatus, Yankee Bravo will be part of the entertainment at the Canton Symphony Orchestra's Blue Jean Ball on March 18 at Brookside Farms in Louisville, Ohio. The Blue Jean Ball is a pre-cursor to the CSO's MasterWorks concert on March 19 featuring the World Premiere of Grammy nominee Béla Fleck's second banjo concerto.  'We are honored and looking forward to coming out of our hibernation to be part of such a great event celebrating Béla Fleck and the Canton Symphony,' noted Yankee Bravo's Benjamin Payne.  Celebrating the Americana roots genre, the casual “Ball” will include a picnic-style menu, cash bar, guest bartenders, entertainment, silent auction and a special non-musical appearance by Mr. Fleck.

Giving students the chance to play alongside professional musicians provides invaluable musical education opportunities for the up-and-coming musicians.
