Kasey Crawford Kellem Releases DON'T STOP BELIEVING: OUR JOURNEY WITH CANCER by BWW News Desk
- August 31, 2015 There's more than one way to tell a sad story, but sharing a true story of love, hope, faith and the loss of a loved one to cancer can be painful, difficult and heart wrenching, as well as uplifting and encouraging. The personal narrative of 'Don't Stop Believing: Our Journey with Cancer,' by Kasey Crawford Kellem is a remarkable memoir that shares her personal struggle, unconditional love for her husband Craig, and their losing battle against prostate cancer.
'We loved, laughed and lived to the very end,' shared Kasey. 'We didn't give up on life just because of a grim outcome. Craig's life touched many people from family, close friends and strangers who followed our journey through social media.'
In the memoir, 'Don't Stop Believing: Our Journey with Cancer' readers experience some of the uplifting events and ways Kasey and Craig celebrated, danced and enjoyed life. 'You have a choice in this world and we chose to believe,' said Kasey, and believe they did. With a cancer diagnosis hanging over their heads, Kasey and Craig paid it forward by encouraging others also battling cancer and hardships to find the joy in life around them. Kasey and friend, Harry, even started a trend based off the concept of a Flash Mob to help uplift not only Craig, but family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers with what they dubbed a Love Mob.
Kasey is a big believer, teacher and role model of being resilient. Living with Multiple Sclerosis and having lost her mother eleven years ago, she knows how to overcome challenges. 'My mom used to say, 'If this is the worst that can happen to you, then you're lucky,' said Kasey. 'Craig also had a motto: 'This too shall pass.' Because we believed and celebrated life, laughed, dreamed and were surrounded by loving people, we were able to get through the hard times.'
In 'Don't Stop Believing: Our Journey with Cancer' readers will relate to the love and devotion Kasey and her husband Craig experienced as they believed and celebrated to the very end. Much of the memoir draws upon memories and social media posts Kasey shared on Facebook throughout their journey with cancer. 'When I sat down to write after Craig passed, it was very raw and fresh to me the experiences we went through. I found going through my timeline and being able to reflect was very cathartic and therapeutic. I wasn't able to process what was happening to us at the time. I was on autopilot. I couldn't let myself get emotional. I had to be a rock for my husband. But now, I was able to see what happened and how we made it through to the end. Writing this memoir has helped me process everything. I'm not bitter. I don't play the 'What if' game. We lived...we believed,' shared Kasey.
Kasey Crawford Kellem's raw honesty reveals every emotion she faced and the various thoughts that raced through her mind after her husband Craig was given his death sentence. 'Don't Stop Believing: Our Journey with Cancer' is not exactly happy. It's not that kind of book. However, it will linger long and hard in the minds of readers and show life is worth living no matter the outcome. But it's not a cancer book either...because cancer books suck.
'In the midst of a cancer diagnosis, most patients and family members find it difficult to retain the information they hear. Having a loved one live with a terminal diagnosis for an extended period of time is fast replacing sudden and unexpected death as a norm,' said Halo Publisher Lisa M. Umina. 'In this emotional rendition of Kasey and Craig's battle with cancer, Kasey encourages people fighting this dreaded disease to never lose hope, to keep believing and to celebrate life to the every end.'
You can purchase 'Don't Stop Believing: Our Journey with Cancer' through Halo Publishing's website (http://halopublishing.com), Amazon, B&N and local bookstores.

Author Launches New Mashup Book Series by BWW News Desk
- August 31, 2015 Is it possible to write a cohesive book series across multiple genres where the reader chooses the next book to be written? On Sept. 3, 2015 Kynegion House author Jeremy Vaeni answers 'Yes!' with the first volume of his B-Movies in a Book Series titled, 'Free Space: The Real Life Story of a Bingo Queen.'
'My original idea was just to take these old screenplays I had lying around, dust them off, and rewrite them as independent novels,' Vaeni says. 'But I saw the potential for interconnectivity there, to build a mini universe with these bookseven though they were from different genres. Zombie movies, indie dramas, dark comedies, thrillers, cheesy science fictionHow do you take these disparate parts and make them a cohesive, believable whole? How do you make that whole work even for people who will skip a book based on its genre without them missing anything? And how do you retain the flavor of a movie in a book? These were my questions and I've figured them out.'
Once Vaeni ironed out the kinks he took the project 2 steps further. He says, 'Growing up, my favorite books were always Choose Your Own Adventure. So that's what I'm doing here, taking that to another level. After I release the first two books, 'Free Space' and 'The Squared Circle,' the audience will have to choose the next book that gets written. Would you rather see a ridiculous movie title referenced in 'Free Space' come to life or find out what top secret thing happened to the lead character in 'The Squared Circle' back in college? Both books will get written eventually, it's simply a matter of in which order. And I think it's fun to get readers involved that way but also in another. Perhaps they'd like to step up and write the next book as well. Let's see how collaborative we can get in this universe-building. TV shows and movie series work this way. Why can't a book series? Kynegion House is the perfect publishing house to experiment with this.'
'Free Space: The Real Life Story of a Bingo Queen' is a mock-documentary comedy that tells the story of a young man documenting the goings-on at a local bingo hall, who becomes infatuated with an ex-stripper and uncovers a conspiracy. Vaeni says he is releasing this first because it's a mock-documentary in book form, which is a challenge to write and will set the bar high for future books in the series. He adds, 'Also, because it's hilarious. I'm sick of humor books that are just kinda witty, you know? You maybe smile your way through it or giggle here and there. Where's the belly laugh? If I'm not laughing out loud at least once per chapter, I'm failing.'
Jeremy Vaeni is available for interviews and appearances. For booking presentations, media appearances, interviews, and/or book-signings contact kynegionhouse@yahoo.com.

New Book Launch Celebration: 'Samantha's Story' by Author Tammy Cantrell Greene by BWW News Desk
- August 30, 2015 Local Author, Tammy Cantrell Greene and her daughter Samantha, subject of the book, will be on hand at the launch celebration.
'Samantha's Story' is the true account of Sam's battle with ulcerative colitis which she contracted at age seven. Though the book details many of her struggles with the disease, Samantha and Tammy view it as a book of hope. With knowledge, understanding and patience, young people dealing with chronic illness can live full, productive lives and Samantha is proof of that. Now 14, she participates in school and church activities with vitality and energy.
Tammy's inspiration in writing of the book came to her through a scripture:
Jeremiah 10:19 - New International Version of the Bible (NIV)
'Woe to me because of my injury!
My wound is incurable!
Yet I said to myself,
This is my sickness, and I must endure it.'
'An illness needn't define us,' says Tammy. 'We often discover strength when we have no other choice.'
In writing 'Samantha's Story,' Tammy hopes to assist other families to find hope in dealing with their child's chronic illnesses. She works closely with Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) to provide awareness and help to parents and families.
A guest speaker whose daughter has Crohn's disease will share their experience with the illness that evening as well.

BWW Book Review: Alex Sheremet's Insightful WOODY ALLEN: REEL TO REAL by Chris Gibson
- August 28, 2015 One of the things I truly enjoy about being a critic is not just the fact that I get to cover the St. Louis theater scene, but also that I receive countless opportunities to review other mediums within the artistic world of creation. I've had the request to deliver my thoughts and opinions on concerts, CDs, DVDs, art, and books. The printed word is something I've always enjoyed, and when that book concerns music, theater or film, it touches on subjects that are especially near and dear to my heart. So, when I was contacted by Ascot Media Group about Alex Sheremet's ebook, Woody Allen: Reel to Real (Take2 Publishing), I naturally jumped at the chance. Not only because I've always admired Woody's movies, but because I feel he's never been given a truly honest and thorough examination of his vast body of work. Writer Alex Sheremet has taken on the task, and since it is truly a digi-dialogue, it will be an ever evolving piece that will continue to grow as Allen continues to make films, and as discussions occur concerning their validity and worth.
