AMERICAN CLASSICS PRESENTS "IN THE BACKGROUND” The classic film CASABLANCA is forever associated with As Time Goes By and many other songs heard at Rick’s Café. Posh parties and Mildred’s Restaurant have tunes behind dialogue that tickle the ear in ALL ABOUT EVE and MILDRED PIERCE. Now American Classics brings those songs to the forefront for two performances Friday, February 24, 2023, at 7:30 pm in Jewett Hall at First Church Congregational, 11 Garden Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm at First Parish Church, 75 Great Road, Bedford, Massachusetts. The cast features Grace Allendorf, Valerie Anastasio, Jean Danton, Brian De Lorenzo, John Manning, Benjamin Sears with Bradford Conner, and Eric Mazonson on piano. The familiar songs featured in those films include Blue Moon, I’m Just Wild About Harry, Stormy Weather, Love for Sale, That Old Black Magic, and more. Chopin and Liszt will make an appearance, too. Founded in 1996, American Classics is the Boston area's only organization devoted solely to the performance of American music, giving voice to forgotten gems and newly discovered musical treasures in concerts of vocal and instrumental music. Tickets for all performances - $25; $20 for students and seniors. For tickets and information, call 617-254-1125 or order online at amclass.org.
