"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I'm bored and turned it off now but that opening with all the Dollys, cast and song was AMAZING.

That opening was beyond sensational! It was incredible to see all those DOLLY faces again--even my beloved Charlie Stemp from across the pond! It made me realize how much I miss them.
I fondly remember when Liz Calloway first made me cry with The Story Goes On onstage at BABY back in the early 80's. The version on her own CD has always had the same effect on me, just the perfect marriage of song and singer. But man, nothing could be as beautiful as the rendition today with those gorgeous ladies alongside her. Brilliant job, all.
The fact that everyone besides Gavin was in this when he plays a big role in the song and the show makes me nervous. I know he was diagnosed at the beginning of this, but it seems like it's been a while since we've heard from him. Hope he's okay!
just watched this. The DOLLY opening was stunning. Loved all the Mama Roses, the Come From Away cast & Celia!

I was concerned about that as well (was Taylor Trensch in it?) Possibly Gavin was somewhere with bad wi-fi.
^ Yup, Taylor was it it. Seems like Gavin is the only one who wasn’t. I remember seeing him on something at the beginning of all of this and he did seem like he was in some sort of cabin in the woods, but these are taped, so I’d assume his WiFi doesn’t have to be stellar to just send a video. 🤷🏻♀️🙏🏻

She's stunning, funny, and that VOICE! Apparently she did a workshop or a reading of something a little while ago. I remember Laura posting about how proud she is that her mom was rejoining the world of performing publicly more and more.
