I just really do find it strange to call it "gender-inclusive" while excluding male and male-identified actors in the mix. It's like calling something "color-blind" when in fact you intend to do an all-black version."

What I don’t get is why they didn’t cast men as the two women. If you’re gonna gender bend, might as well go the whole way.

Anyway I’m not really too into the idea of women playing these roles. I’m fine occasionally genderbending parts like if there’s some powerful artistic merit or historical basis behind it, or if a part of one gender just physically calls for the opposite gender to do it.

This just sort of feels like gender bending for the sake of gender bending, I’m not picking up a real valid point in doing so. Doesn’t mean the production can’t be good, it just strikes me as an odd choice. Maybe there’s more to the choice then meets the eye though, I guess people will see next spring. but I just can’t help but think If someone wanted a big cast made up entirely of women, why not just choose a show that was actually designed to be performed that way? I’ll withhold judgement on the whole thing though.

is anyone even still interested in this?

this felt like a response/riff to Hamilton when it was announced and it would have played better right after Clinton lost the election then right now

I am. Do I love this concept? Not really, but I love 1776 and the ART.

Still not that familiar with 1776 but after Griffin Matthews and Aneesh Sheth spoke out and all the revelations as Jagged Little Pill fell apart, I'm definitely... curious how this production goes.

I'm still curious, although if I were a producer,  I wouldn't put a cent into this particular production. Just solely based on what was done to JLP because of the mistake and negligence of one person.

Did that really cause JLP to close though? I mean I guess we will never know.

Jagged Little Pill closed because it didn’t sell enough tickets while Omicron cancellations worsened their dire financial situation. Simple as that.

I am really interested to see how this show will be received. Personally, I have no interest in seeing it, but I will read about it.

I agree the “moment” for this production is kinda passed. I love 1776 but can’t imagine much interest from the public. Aren’t we all tired of politics?

Recently 1776 has been done twice. Just seems like it does not need to be revived for a while.

I assume it’s still gender switched? I am definitely interested. I know, this is an old thread, but considering what is going on in politics right now, I think recasting our “founding fathers” is pretty interesting. In case some of you haven’t noticed, our government is still pretty much run by old white men and their decisions about women are pathetic.

I'd assume this is going to be a limited run probably through the summer only?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Their website says it's Fall 2022, but it will definitely be a limited run. No chance Roundabout would ever put a standing production at the AA.

I'm intrigued by this. I can usually get very good prices for any of the non-profits as a student under 30, so I'll probably check it out.

As far as its viability, I would agree that there isn't a huge market for this. But, in a small theater for a limited run, I think it'll do fine.

At the ART?     MAY 15 - JUL 24   The ART almost always has definitive starts and stops.    It seems to be selling well, but in our Covid-Climate, nothing is as good as it used to be.

I am going early in the run, and IF we love it, we'll try to go back - but who knows.

I feel like the momentum was fleeting and they lost it. Through no fault of their own. Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. I hope so. I think it could be an interesting idea.

I’m so confused about what this show is doing. It’s announcing a Broadway run next season. But it’s also on the tour schedules for a bunch of theaters for the same season. So are that doing two casts and launching the tour and the Broadway production simultaneously?

Those are all the same production, co-produced by ART, Roundabout and Networks.

It has its run at ART, then goes to Broadway, then on tour.

UGH...no one here was in attendance last night?  Disappointing.  I'll be there on Saturday, trying to manage my expectations but we've been waiting 2 years to see this (thanks, covid) and we just LOVE this show.

Roundabout hasn't officially announced their dates yet, but typically their fall shows at the American Airlines close around Thanksgiving. So assuming this has similar dates, that will give them about two months between closing and their first road performance beginning of February.
