I have tickets for a Wednesday matinee in late March and, although my weeklong trip is fully booked, I’m wondering if I should try to switch with my Wednesday evening show (Girl From the North Country) if Telecharge will let me. Has Isaac been skipping matinees since coming back from his injury? From what I’ve been reading, I wouldn’t want to miss his performance.
If you want the least amount of understudies possible, go before opening night. Because I can guarantee you that the understudy board will be FILLED post-opening.

From experience the best time to go is before Tony Awards season in June. I caught the Fish Oklahoma! cast complete that way, something that rarely happened after the Tony’s.

Why is that? I figured the leads would be in at least through Tony season

Another example - the matinee before the Tony Awards, I caught the entire OBC of Hadestown. I'd love to go back and see some understudies, but I'm definitely grateful I got to see the cast when I did.

Yes the Hadestown OBC was another that I feel lucky I caught complete before Tony season. Dear Evan Hansen with no understudies was also another combo that became hard to catch after Tony season.

The attendance does seem atrocious so far. The 2008 revival cast was crucified for absences, including the infamous harsh backstage riot act from Laurents.
This cast seems to get more of a pass because this revival is so edgy and being received well.
