Super excited to see this musical get more recognition! https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Jake-Gyllenhaal-To-Produce-And-Star-In-FUN-HOME-Film-Adaptation-20200102
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
SUPER excited for this, but also super hesitant. Wonder how they’re gonna treat a lot of the stuff like Allison’s narration and Edges of the World, how they’re gonna play out. I’m not sure how well those things could play on film.

I wonder who they'll get to play Little Alison - whether they'll go for an open call or get someone from Broadway. Would Sarah Charles Lewis have the voice for it? She hasn't done much since Tuck Everlasting, but she has a super-powerful voice.
"I think that when a movie says it was 'based on a true story,' oh, it happened - just with uglier people." - Peanut Walker, Shucked
I LOVE this!!! So excited! I can definitely see this working on film, though maybe not in a traditional sense. And I love the idea of Jake as Bruce.
I’m not sure if Ellen Page can sing, but she’d be a perfect Medium Alison.
I’d love to see Amy Adams as Helen!
Weirdly my thought for Big Alison was Kate McKinnon? I know that’s kind of weird, but she was on my mind after seeing her in Bombshell, in which she did a good job in a relatively serious role. But she might not do well in such a central dramatic role. And again, not sure if she can sing.
What about Anne Hathaway in the mother role? I'm not her biggest fan, but the idea of pairing her with Jake again, a fitting BROKEBACK reunion with great parts for both actors. And despite not being her biggest fan, I will admit she has a great voice when compared to most film actresses today.
Should we be worried that Sam G is directing? Historically, theatre directors aren’t good at directing their own work on film (Hal Prince; Susan S come to mind).

McKinnon can in fact sing and funny enough, my friend and I were talking about her doing this about an hour ago lol would love it.
There's no source or confirmation behind this. Jake is laughable in this part, far too young. Shame Michael isn't available considering he won a Tony for it.

Jake is 39 years old. It isn’t believable that he would have 3 young children?
