just to state the obvious: Liza's "endorsement" is not required for a bio musical, Liza's endorsement says nothing about the quality of the piece other than to her, and Liza's endorsement could suggest choices that would not be viewed in the same way by others.

Good point in that the musical might be more of a puff piece and overlook the negative aspects of her life.

Though of course it's now pretty common knowledge that so many of those demons she battled later in life stemmed from the way those who should have been protecting her treated her in her early life.

She started her performing career as a toddler in the vaudeville circuit. Stage mother scenario to boot. Was signed on to an MGM contract in her early teens, where she was introduced to pep pills (to keep her active and alert for hours) and barbiturates (to bring her down so she could sleep). Her body quickly became addicted and her lifelong battle with these pills lasted till her death at age 47.
Though we mostly know about her later life (suicide attempts, career bumps, etc), her life was far from perfect in even in her early years.

She isher daughter and her approval or disapproval matters to fans. I don’t get the reason for the dig."

Whose fans? What dig? Her "endorsement" is a silly thing to get excited about. Is she ponying up the money to produce it? Nope.
I think, for me, having Liza approve somehow justifies that they are doing right by the story. They are being careful and telling it correctly. Anytime I hear a family member of one of these bio-projects disapproves of the final product, I wonder if the story is credible.
I don't know if that's good or bad of me to think, but it's definitely how i justify it.

Those seem to have nothing to do with one another. Family involvement can just as easily mean they are going to keep it light and not go into certain areas...
The show already has a family friend/friend of the estate working in the show. Her, well, estate is very strict about what is or is not released and often insist on whitewashing so the story deters from the tragic storyline.
Whenever I have read or heard reviews, it sounds like a fun show that dips its toes in the more serious topics of her growing up but doesnt fully invest in them. Which, in my opinion as a huge JG fan, is for the best. I dont think her initial years were as dramatic as those to come. A good example being the TV film with Judy Davis, Me and My Shadows, which I highly recommend. They give the more serious parts their attention and then move on, because things werent bad yet. She was just a girl from Minnesota trying to break into the movie business.
