I'm hoping it gets a bit of a bump! I'm expecting War Paint or Doll's House to go next.

There is gossip  ( and nothing but gossip ) that Dolly is about to announce short engagements of Divas for its show and they want to announce a big chunk of them all at once.  I wonder if they are waiting for War Paint to close before they can do this?  Just me adding to the gossip.

Barely any changes? I saw both productions as well and the book has been entirely rewritten (not to mention the addition of several songs, a new set, etc). It is a vastly different show on Broadway.

I loved this show so much.  Strong, powerful, beautiful.  Shame it did not find its audience.

Sad to hear this news. I liked the show though I felt like it didn't quite get where it needed to despite being full of good ideas and potential. I also felt like they didn't market it to middle America as well as they could have. But still, it was an original idea with some great songs and performances. Wish it could have found a broader audience.

What a shame. BANDSTAND will close September 17th I absolutely loved the show. I hope there's a chance of a tour sometime. But in any case, I'm very glad and thankful I got to see it on Broadway with that excellent cast.

Such beautiful choregraphy and lighting.  Loved it.  The show was wonderful, tourists like to see the big stuff they have heard of so "Wicked, Phantom, Lion King, Mormon".  Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen have totally different audiences, younger audiences which Broadway needs.

This show is for people who love swing, big band, Corey and Laura, veterans, people who are interested in seeing PTSD acted on stage and people like me who fit into all these categories.  So, not a huge audience I guess, although it was full the 3 times I saw it.

These statements always confuse me.  You say it is one of the best shows of the season but you have never seen it.

Yes, I have never seen the show. Do I think it has a wonderful cast recording, cast, and plot? Yes, I do. I can say it's one of the best because I've enjoyed what I've seen of the show better than many things this season.

While I felt some parts of the show weren't as fullified theatrically as some of the others it is a very good score. There were several emotional goose bump moments. Especially Right This way, and Welcome Home.

Well that's a bummer. Based on some reactions here, I went in just for Laura Osnes, expecting a bunch of hackneyed nonsense, but it actually worked much better than people let on. Welcome Home was especially moving. The CD is also really good, as others have mentioned. Going to try to see it one more time before it closes.

Man, this is he first time I ever accurately predicted when a show would close and I really wish I hadn't been right. I think the promotion for this show screwed it over from the start. I follow Laura, as I'm a huge fan of hers, and even I was having trouble gathering exactly what he vibe/story/feel of this show was until deep into it when they started bluntly putting it out there what the show was about and even then, I don't think anything accurately conveyed it all until he cast recording finally came out. This show was so much better than it was portrayed to be and it's a shame it couldn't find its audience, especially with how much awareness they've been trying to raise for Vets issues and causes. It was a show with a lot of heart that extended beyond the stage and a stellar, talented and fun cast.

That said, I'm with whoever said this opens Laura up for Crazy For You, bring it on!

Always sad when a show closes with actors, musicians, cast & crew out of work.

I really enjoyed it when I saw it in May.

The moment when Donny comes around the piano and holds Julia, after the climactic performance of Welcome Home, has stayed with me, and it always will. So powerful. Especially as a veteran's daughter, I really appreciated the balance that the show struck between calling for true recognition of and gratitude to the returning soldiers, and resisting propaganda and exploitation. That's not easy to do, but they did it so well.

Ugh. Really, really liked this show. So many great things about it. I think the marketing was so bizarre though. First the ads were all making it seem like it was this sexy show with all the dancing and the glistening skin and the smoke. Then the ads were all about "Andy Blankenbuehler of Hamilton" with his own show. Then it was about the choreography. Through it all, could you really tell what the show was about?

This, exactly. I was really confused when that commercial came out because it didn't fit with what I heard the plot was and then the more I learned about it the more i realized it clashed and didn't make any sense at all. The commercial and advertising was selling a very different show than what was being performed.

Sad to see Bandstand and Comet close... Hopefully the silver lining is less competition and more sales for GHD.

I saw it at the Paper Mill, and it is considerably changed -- adding a major plot point that is essential and a few new songs, one that is particularly good.

This is by no means a great show. It's what would be called a "seasonal musical" in the Golden Age  (Good enough to run September to June season, but not much more) That said, it has the best score of the season (and yes, I've heard DEH, meh), two very attractive, talented leads, a great band, and a good looking production. The dancing, although exciting, is excessive and the book tends to go in too many directions and could use a much stronger focus.  But for my money Bandstand and Comet were the two best musicals of the season.

I tend to doubt it. The competition is shrinking, but so is the pie with the end of the summer season. Also, not clear that the audience for the shows are the same....(not clear what audience GHD is looking for, actually)

Really bummed about this. I think this show suffered from opening in a crowded season and marketing that wasn't great. I really love the recording and would love to see this tour.

The crowding and marketing were a little off, yes.  I am glad they announced it early so people have time to get tickets to see this beautiful gem of a show.

I actually do think it might have done better in this upcoming season, where there's not as many critical-buzz projects, but I'm glad it made it through the summer at least (although I'm very sad now that I know there's no chance I'll get to see it). Best wishes to everyone involved!

Eh. That was said earlier this season. All it takes is one Dear Evan Hansen to suck all the air out of the room (and a Hello Dolly for good measure to nab some acting awards). Similarly, I can see a lot of the revivals putting up a good fight in the acting categories and who knows what will emerge as the original critical darling next season (probably The Band's Visit, but anything can happen)?
