TBH I am really annoyed at the number of "pick this for me" threads. Even though I know most of the ones asking are well-meaning. Can't you make up your own minds? Or read older threads about the shows you're considering? You know yourself and your tastes better than we do!

Thank you. My thoughts also.

I might've missed this - but isn't it like anything - you get out what you put in?

Want to start a new conversation? Start one! Don't like the look of a topic (I don't care who's the hottest chorus member) - don't read it...

I've lurked for years and years - I frequent the Talkin' Broadway board more simply because I found it easier to navigate, that board is dying out - so I'm hopeful that this might be a place that I can check out more - so I'm working hard to navigate on it. I don't get to NYC nearly as much as I would like to, so I'm always interested in reading anything going on.

Hey, Matt! You're Top Model recaps are exactly what I miss about BWW! Humor! And I thought of you when Cirie was cast on this season of Survivor! Hope you are well! Mwah!

(and another Mwah to Dottie!)

The only reason to visit BWW anymore is Whizzer's reviews and the review roundups...seeing CFA on Thursday.

I haven't been here for too long, so I don't know if this has always been a thing. But am I the only one who finds the abundance of threads about Michael Riedel's articles redundant, and verging on annoying? I feel like Riedel likes to stir the pot, and all the threads about his gossip only feed into that.

Again, I don't know if people have always posted a lot about this, but I thought this felt like an appropriate thread to say my opinion on it in.

I left for basically the same reason as Kad.

I do check in though, there are just very few threads that interest me.

I don't think I've ever seen so many "Pick a show for me" threads in the history of this board as I have in the past three weeks. Even TODAY.

What's happening? Can people not pick something for themselves? Why do they want to ask a bunch of strangers to go into their brain and say YES, THIS IS THE ONE. DEAR EVAN HANSEN IS FOR YOU.

Are they trying to be that thrifty and don't want to risk spending $ on something they may not like? I get wanting to save money, but there's nothing a little googling can't bring up as far as research. (And if it is a money issue... still, I don't think it was like this during the 2008 recession.) And guess what? Live entertainment is all about taking the risk that you may not like something.

Or why they can't just look at a previous thread with a similar title?

The Hello Dolly thread is bringing back the old BroadwayWorld, maybe just for a little while, but at least it's here again.

The thing that gets to me is when people start those threads and say nothing about their preferences for shows. I know nothing about you. How am I supposed to pick which show you'll like best? At that point you're just asking for everyone's favorite show and it's not difficult to figure out which shows are the most popular. If someone asks about which shows are appropriate for kids or says they like mega-musicals and spectacle but nothing too depressing... something like that I don't mind as much.

YEP. A useful request from someone who hasn't posted much (or at all) here is along the lines of: "I'm coming to NYC for the first time in a couple of years. My boyfriend and I really liked [show] last time, but are looking to branch out a bit. We saw [show 2, show 3] on tour in our town and liked those, but not so much [show 4]. We want something fun and new to us, and our budget is [$$$]. A more serious musical is okay too. We'd like to be able to buy a few weeks before our trip, or something I won't have to worry about time-wise on TodayTix, since we won't have time for TKTS. Thanks!"

There, see? As easy as a script to call your Congress person, and probably more productive.

I was chatting with another former longtime poster about this last weekend. We were saying that Facebook has sort of mitigated the “need” to frequent the boards, as many of us have turned a lot of these online friendships into real-life friendships via social media, which has made it easier to disengage from – or in some folks’ cases, abandon altogether – posting here.

I so very agree with this. Riedel on, Riedel on, Riedel on, Riedel on. If I want to read what his gossipy self has to say--I'll go to the Post website and read it.

Riedel this.

There are the people, too, that simply post every single article or blog post they find that has anything to do with b'way.

And make NO comment on it at all....just the link.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I think it's a new culture where showing up to your friends on Facebook. To some people it's more important to go to a play and then post a pic with said actor on Facebook than you know, experiment the play itself. I saw some people who don't even congratulate the actor in question or even ask to take a picture or say thanks, as if it was their obligation.

I'm young but I don't like this kind of behaviour. I think that's why there are many posts about the stage door and not so much about the plays.
