If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I'm saddened by this news. I wish his family and friends strength. His music was beautiful and I had hoped to see him compose and premiere many more works. I loved his art. May he rest in peace.
It seems like the more talented someone is, the more troubles they face...
This is such sad news. It's always a bit of a heartbreak to lose someone who makes a major impact on the arts community. Sending love and kind thoughts to his friends and family.
Every living soul has got a voice - you've got to give it room and let it sing.
And Dramamama, your little "well I don't know about brilliant" remark was really lame. Brilliant or not, this is tragic, and it's a little too soon for the snark, but unfortunately not unexpected on here.
This might be an explanation for why another composer was called in to do the new material for the recent Bare revival, provided the death was the result of some long-term sickness.
(This slightly less harmless speculation brought to you by me.)
I'm sorry that the man died, but it doesn't even hint at why he died.
Is it your business?
g.d.e.l.g.i. STFU.
If you have nothing to add, don't comment. Is it my business? It's news that he died. It's incomplete news not to know the reason why a 39 year old man died.
Your comment is so typical of those on this board. Commenting just to make yourself heard. Pompous ass.
Maybe the family does not want to divulge information on how he died right now, or ever. No matter how he died, he died. And that is new. We don't need to know everything.
As far as his nonparticipation in the bare revival, illness was not the reason.

Oh, how forceful you are, howard. Such a perfect specimen of manhood. So... dominant. Your mum must be awfully proud of you.
In other words, it's not your business, and you don't like being called out on it. Glad we've clarified that.
g.d.e.l.g.i.- The Playbill article says "suddenly", so I suspect it was not a long-term sickness.

I see. Well, there goes that line of speculation. uncageg, you seem to hint at knowing why he didn't participate. Not to derail the thread, but may I ask why?
When someone dies suddenly at age 39, I don't think it's inappropriate to ask how it happened. Looks like some people should take their moral outrage elsewhere.

If it's not in the announcement, it means one of two things, my darling. Numero uno, he's just died, so they won't know 'til the autopsy comes back. Numero dos, they know what it was, and they didn't consider it necessary to announce it, which makes it, drumroll please, none of our business.
I got to know Damon during the first NY run of BARE and then saw him in LA a few times. He was unusual and wacky but I never thought of him as "troubled". My heart goes out to his family and friends. "Only the good die young"
I agree that it is a matter of privacy, and the people who are supposed to know what happened will.... but, I also think it is natural for people to want to know how someone died, when they are so young and haven't been heard from in years. I don't blame anyone for asking!
