and all I can say is...WTF!

It had some good songs and great singers, but too campy and I'm in shock anyone thought this could be a hit on B'way.

Too bad for those investors...they could have put their money into a much better show:

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

My friend texted me during the show and raved about the colors. Made me want to see it really badly.

I love this comment on YouTube posted 2 weeks ago:

"I think this musical will surprise everyone and become huge. Like wicked it got mixed reviews but it already? seems to be building up a fanbase :)"

sad.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

They should all be buying premium tickets for their extended family instead of wasting time on facebook :P.

I will admit it has a good(ish) score going for it. They need to trim down some of the stupid ballads for the lead, and get rid of the awful plot. Just streamline it. We don't need to meet Lewis Carroll. That was an awful idea and slowed down the play totally. We don't want to be hit over the head with "THIS IS A LESSON" - just show us some pretty colors and sound pretty.

Also, let's talk about the direction. Why did the main door to the apartment open right into the little girls bedroom? That's stupid. I cannot suspend my disbelief for that.

I wish I could see it. I love a good bad show every once in a while, and after listening to the music and seeing the clips, I know I would have LOVED this. Eh. Maybe there will be a bootleg soon...

I think it'll probably do better touring and overseas- I think it's a good fit for Taranzuka.

What? Hasn't it been announced that the show is closing this weekend? Or did someone tell me wrong.

I saw it the night after Catch Me If You Can. I found CMIYC quite a big yawn. I found much of Wonderland bordering on spellbinding. As usual Wildhorn tries to make every number the big showstopper, but several really could be, unlike Catch Me, which I found only one number that was a real wow.

I'm a little confused about the comment regarding not being able to get over the door to the apartment being in the girl's bedroom. The whole show is about falling through an elevator which is a rabbit hole into another universe. Once you suspend disbelief, why draw the limit on such a minor non realistic point in a totally non realistic show?

Anyone have any idea as to whether this'll be on TKTS this weekend? I may try & see it before it closes. Not that I think it'll be any good. But mostly to say that I had...

It has been on there all week, and the theater was about half empty when I saw it saw it. Have fun, it's too bad I think if the show had been a little sharper it could have had a nice run.

Thanks! I knew it had been on the boards forever (and was mostly empty). Just was mostly curious if the producers might pull it from the boards now that the world knows what a big stinking flop it truly is. Yay! This makes me excited!
