the fact that all four performances by revivals were better than any new musical. And compared to last year's amazing opening, this year's opening was a complete bored(as was most of the show).

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

This year really was weaker than others, wasn't it? This economy has everyone treading safer waters. Next year seems promising so far, though :)

My biggest bitching session for this year isn't actually about a win/lose, but about my stupid DVD player.

I hear, "And the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical Goes To..." and then suddenly, there is lip-syncing and no sound. The DVD player's sound went out. Then the remote battery died and I couldn't pause the DVD recording properly while I backed up the DVR.

If there had been no DVR and I'd been unable to hear the last 15 mins, I would have been pretty pissed!

[EDIT] Oh, wait, I did have a big one about the show itself:
What was UP with Denzel Washington not even knowing who was giving him his award? That is so disrespectful and rude and shows what he thinks of the award anyone else in his category would be honored to receive. Updated On: 6/14/10 at 11:48 PM

CarHoop, are you kidding me? Your posts disgust me. Seriously. Are you like 14 years old?

This thread is not titled, "Bitch about the posters" but about the Tony's. Bebe should have been nominated at least! And, Catherine's performance just stank of odd acting choices and misunderstanding the character. Ugh.

The Tony Awards reflected the paucity of good material during 2009-2010. There were no blockbuster musicsls, there was not one soaring play. Which is not to say that the season was without some good moments -- La Cage was a total delight and I look forward to seeing Fences in July. Personally, in terms of the Awards Ceremony, I think American Idiot made a strong case for survival -- the audience was eating it up and hopefully some of that energy poured out into the hinterlands. I was in NYC last night and passed the St. James Theatre, which was a madhouse of people begging for single tickets. Maybe their extended exposure with stimulate future ticket sales. God knows, we've seen a lot worse -- starting with that bland show playing across the street.

Memphis: musical, score and book. It's obviously not worth bitching about anymore cause what's done is done and everything has already been said. In any case, seriously? I have never hated, disliked, and several other negative adjectives, a show as much as I despised Memphis. I know Catherine wasn't great (based on her performance this evening and what others have said) but I am beyond thrilled that Montego didn't win! (I was rooting for Kate Baldwin or Christiane Noll)

Catherine Zeta-Jones definitely did not convince the Tony watchers that she deserved her award...Montego Glover and Christiane Noll were way more impressive.

Scarlett johansson, Catherine Zeta Jones and Douglas Hodge winning...horrible choices.
I didn't see Denzel in his play, but it seems they wanted all the celebrities to win this year.

A View From the Bridge should've won best revival and Liev best actor. Instead they awarded Scarlett.
Based on the clips online, Brittany Murphy showed a lot more energy, and emotional depth when she starred in this great play and wasn't recognized.

Except she deserved it, Liev didn't, and Denzel did. He is amazing in Fences.

I can't comment on Denzel. Liev was amazing, and Scarlett was stiff and lacked emotion and enthusiasm in my opinion. She always plays all the roles the same way.

She always plays all the roles the same way.

ALL the roles? All of the roles in the whole world? Wow, tell that to her BAFTA award for Lost in Translation and her Golden Globe nomination for Girl with the Pearl Earing. Or maybe her critical praise for Match Point or her other nomination for Love Song for Bobby Long. Yup... she plays ALL of those roles exactly the same way.

Scarlett was stiff and lacked emotion and enthusiasm

No, she played the part as a timid girl. It's called acting. It wouldn't have made sense for her character to be overflowing with energy. I didn't even want her to win (I was rooting for Jan), but to say that Scarlett's performance was bad is just uninformed.

I didn't say it was bad. And I'm not uninformed, because I saw her in it.
I think she was good, but nothing to rave about. The Hollywood-Broadway transition worked a lot better for her, than for example, Julia Roberts. But then if I compare her with Lucy Liu or other Hollywood stars that made Broadway debuts lately, I think she wasn't as good. She didn't seem comfortable on stage at all, and it wasn't part of her character.

Anyways, I agree to disagree with you. But if you read the title of this thread, it's a thread to bitch! Not to argue who was good or not. I can bitch about her not being that great, but she is the one that has all the str8 hot guys after her, she is married to Ryan Reynolds, she's a millionaire, famous, rich, young, "talented" according to you, and now has a Tony! So I doubt she is worried about what I have to say. But thanks for sticking up for her.

And that's what I mean by uninformed. And whether it's a bitching thread or not, it doesn't give you the right to make blanket statements that aren't true like "she plays all the roles the same." And I don't think you can bitch about how Liev should have won when you haven't seen all the nominees.

My musings: The show was way too long. Sean Hayes: He was ok, funny at times, good, but not great. The opening was boring until the AI cast hit the stage and GREEN DAY rocked it. AI deserved SCENIC DESIGN and LIGHTING. Overall, the performances were bizarre to say the least. CZJ was in the twilight zone, awful performance. And when her name was called, WTF was that about. Her phony emoting before taking the stage. UGH! And Lea Michele auditioning for the FUNNY GIRL revival, sounding just a tad desperate. Her phrasing and sharp notes were all over the place. This girl's ego gets in the way of her singing. But Matt was terrific. Christiane Noll gave the single best female performance of the night. The LaCage number lacked energy, hell, most of the numbers lacked energy. Fela was a mess and the performance by the cast of MEMPHIS couldn't drag me to the Box Office. So when the Cast of AI took the stage, it was an awesome display of talent and energy. And lastly, it appears that the message the TONY's are sending is, Hey Hollywood Stars come to broadway, collect a fat paycheck and go home with a TONY. Here's to next season...
