Frankly, ticket buyers don't care about diversity in The Music Man. And if you do care, don't go, it won't make a dent.

Well, at least it's getting rescheduled and not canceled. But there's also these factors:

1. Is Spring the actual target for Broadway to re-open now? Does it realistically sound obtainable?

2. Will Jackman & Foster still be involved?

3. If it does indeed start up in April, will everyone still rush to go see it regardless of the current status of COVID-19?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

*if it is true that Hugh Jackman might be involved in filming a movie in the spring

*how sure are they that majority of the ticketholders will be able to make it on those "assigned" dates, especially if they are domestic or overseas tourists? It might be easier to simply automatically refund ( when an official announcement by Broadway League or the production itself is made) and then start the buying process again.

"

I don't know why that would be easier, issuing thousands of refunds just to turn around and sell the same item to largely the same group of people that bought in the first place. The new dates are 10-15 months away. Most people aren't going to have anything already scheduled for their newly assigned date, I would guess that anyone who really wants to go will make the new date work if they can, and those who can't or don't want to will most likely be given refund or exchange options. I think this is a pretty fair way to treat it - people who had tickets for the third preview still have tickets for the third preview; people who had tickets to the first Saturday still have tickets to the first Saturday. On a much larger scale, it's exactly what many touring venues across the country have been offering - if a show gets postponed, your original ticket is honored for the corresponding date in the new run, and if that doesn't work for you, you can work with them to find something that does.

As far as I'm concerned, they just need to tell me when to be there, and I will be there.

I had some of the later tickets in February and they've been moved to September.

1. I would suspect that if Broadway goes back at the end of the year or in January, it would take time to get this show up. So Spring seems about right.

2. As stated above, this show is pretty much centered around Jackman. He is selling tickets.

3. We will see.

Hopefully things will be up and running by April and if that is the case, this is exactly the kind of “event” that will help usher people back to Broadway. I’d put money on Rudin having a huge parade down Times Square led by Hugh Jackman and a marching band like we’ve never seen, promoting the arrival of this show. It’s going to be a spectacle and that’s actually going to be a beautiful thing to see.

I love getting attacked for asking if Rudin will add diversity to its leads given everything going on in the world and the theatre world.  Simply hilarious.

Who attacked you? The response was “how would we know”?

How are you the victim?

How would anyone know? The show was cast, I’m guessing they’re sticking with that cast unless they want to fire people in order to cast someone of a different race which would be - illegal.

Sorry, should have quoted Sutton Ross comment.

Would it be considered firing though in this case?  Maybe there will be "scheduling conflicts"

They would even have the best music for that --

Lol. I'm sure tons of cast members will give up an incredible gig like this when Broadway reopens again....

You were never attacked and of course you should have quoted me.

Unless they are offering some kind of discount or something if you follow their suggested changes?

"

Why would they want to give up their advance? If they refunded everyone there's a risk a lot of people wouldn't repurchase. By moving dates (and I would assume being flexible on rescheduling) they're able to hold on to more of their advance. Selling a new ticket has a cost in marketing dollars too.

They have been honoring refund requests for the last 2 weeks or so, as reported by many on this board. Why have they changed their minds? It's easy if the ticketholder is from the tri-state. For domestic and overseas ticketholders, they have to worry about flights (not even available in some overseas locations due to pandemic restrictions) or other transport means, hotel reservations ( your changed dates may fall into near-peak season NYC hotel dates), or even expiring US visas for some overseas tourists?

Why did they not make an Official Announcement so ticketholders may know officially what their options are?   At the very least, they should have told us up to when the first run is scheduled ( and allow rebooking up to the last selling date)  - so people can make informed decisions!

If you view the Official Pages of TELECHARGE on The Music Man -- it still retains the original preview and opening dates and the message " Not currently selling tickets" or something like that. It causes confusion.

I am not often on the same side as Ms Ross, but totally agree. If diversity is used just for the sake of....then that's not a forward step.

If YOUNGER shoots next spring and all are healthy and ready to go, I'll be curious to see if Sutton stays on board. I'm sure she'd be great, but I'm curious to see who would come on board to replace her. IT sounds like the show was fully cast, so it would depend on if anyone has new conflicts.

Some TV shows are set to start up production again next month. Maybe YOUNGER is in the same boat or films sometime in the Fall?

People are buying tix to see Hugh Jackman.
If the rest of the cast is all-white, or all POC, or a mix, people won’t really care since the main reason they’re buying tickets is to see.... Hugh Jackman!

It's kind of a evil-brilliant move to just move people over. They don't lose their advance, since they figure most people will probably be eager enough to shift their dates to accommodate. And a year from now, that'll probably be the case.
