Howard County Arts Council Open House/Holiday Sale, 12/3

The Howard County Arts Council hosts the annual Open House & Holiday Sale on Friday, December 3, 2010, from 5:30-8pm. Local artists and groups will sell unique and affordable art and handcrafted items including paintings, photography, wearables, prints, ceramics, jewelry, greeting cards and functional sculpture. Refreshments will be provided. HCAC resident artists and art organizations will also have their studios open to the public.

Baltimore theatergoers may be pardoned for not being familiar - yet - with the Atlas District in North East Washington, but this emerging arts-and-entertainment area, focused on about four blocks of H Street, is well worth getting to know. The core is the Atlas Performing Arts Center, an Art Deco movie house that was impeccably redeveloped in 2006 after 30 years as a derelict. And surely there could hardly be a better way of making the Atlas' acquaintance than seeing the Washington Savoyards' revival of the 1879 Gilbert and Sullivan hit, The Pirates of Penzance playing there now.

The Howard County Arts Council is pleased to announce that Howard County business leaders and supporters of the arts and education, Elizabeth and Peter Horowitz will serve as Honorary Hosts of the 14th annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County. The Celebration gala, presented by the Arts Council, will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at its new location The Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Horowitz's will open the festivities by welcoming guests to the stunning arts wing at Howard Community College named in their honor. Bach and Robert Jeffrey, long-time Columbia residents and community leaders, will serve as Honorary Chairs for the Celebration of the Arts gala. Bach is a local dentist who enjoys painting and playing the piano. Bob is an arts enthusiast and accomplished financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. The Jeffreys will be recognized on stage and present one of the Howie Awards. Richard W. Story, Executive Director of the Howard County Economic Development Authority, will emcee the program.
