Mitchell Hébert, professor of theater at the University of Maryland, co-directed the School of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies and National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts' bilingual production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Helen Hayes Award winner discussed being a part of such a groundbreaking project and seeing it evolve from concept to successful stage production.

In an unprecedented partnership of four Baltimore cultural organizations, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA), Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and The Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric will come together for the first time this December to present Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's full-length holiday classic The Nutcracker.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) continues its fifteeenth anniversary season this December with a festive new take on a holiday classic with, It's A Wonderful LIfe: A Live Radio Play. This award-winning adaptation brings Bedford Falls to life by way of an on stage 1940s radio broadcast, and you're invited to be a member of the live studio audience! Since its premier in 1996 playwright Joe Landry's It's A Wonderful LIfe: A Live Radio Play has been produced hundreds of times across the US and been heralded as, 'One of the best holiday shows around.' (Chicago Sun-Times). The story, true to Frank Capra's 1946 film classic starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, is told by six actors performing dozen of characters and all the foley sound effects in traditional old-fashioned radio style.

The University of Maryland's School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies performed their original interpretation of the Shakespearean comedy in collaboration with the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts at UMD in September and Beijing, China in October. Helen Huang, professor of Costume Design at UMD, talks about this groundbreaking production.
Everyman Theatre to Move into New Home, 11/20

The theatre company has been preparing for its move for over five years. The staff will begin conducting business in the new facility at the end of November. Rehearsals for the cast of the inaugural production, August: Osage County, will begin on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. The production will open during Everyman's Grand Opening Week, which will occur from January 14 - January 20, 2013.

The Ephrons seem to have set out to make the point that on some profound level, women's clothes are themselves, and that women's very lives are bound up with their clothes and vice versa. But the case is not well-documented. And little of it bears the stamp of the Ephron wit. But the performances are fine.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) SuperPops and baritone Daniel Narducci, star of stage and screen, will be ringing in the holiday season at the Music Center at Strathmore on Wednesday, December 12 at 8 p.m. and at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Thursday, December 13 at 2 p.m., Friday December 14 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday December 15 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday December 16 2102 at 2 p.m. Under the direction of conductor Robert Bernhardt, this Holiday Pops Celebration will feature the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Anacrusis Handbell Ensemble in a program of carols, classic holiday favorites, sing-alongs and even a special guest from the North Pole. Everyman Theatre to Move into New Home During Thanksgiving Week

Everyman Theatre has announced that it will move into its new home on Fayette Street during the week of November 19, 2012. The administrative offices will be closed during this week in order to facilitate the move and then celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Moving trucks will arrive at the Charles Street location at 10 AM on Tuesday, November 20th.
BSO Announces OrchLab, a Music Education Program to Serve Montgomery County Students

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in partnership with the Montgomery County Public Schools announces OrchLab, a music-in-schools program for elementary, middle and high school students in Montgomery County. OrchLab was created to enrich the instrumental music program in schools within the MCPS system that have the greatest need, as well as to provide professional development opportunities for MCPS music instructors. For the 2012-2013 academic year, OrchLab will be piloted in 23 of the schools located in the Downcounty and Northeast Consortia of the MCPS System.
