Argh, Mateys! HOW I BECAME A PIRATE Opens 9/22 at ATMTC

Yo, ho! Yo, ho! A pirate's life for Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), recent recipient of three 2017 Helen Hayes Awards. ATMTC brings to the stage its delightfully silly, swashbuckling fall musical, How I Became A Pirate, directed by Jenny Male.  Based on the Irma Black Award Winning book for Excellence in Children's Literature by Melinda Long with illustrations by Caldecott Honor-winning David Shannon, this tale of Jeremy Jacobs' high seas adventure is recommended for all ages and opens September 22, 2017. Howard County Arts Council Receives FY2018 Funding from the Maryland State Arts Council

The Howard County Arts Council was awarded a $132,795 Community Arts Development grant for fiscal year 2017-18 from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts.

LYSISTRATA JONES is a show that I knew next to nothing about before seeing the lovely production this past weekend at the Red Branch Theatre. I had heard one song in a concert of Lewis Flynn music, and had loved it. Also, I knew it was about basketball - which is also a topic I know next to nothing about. So I was excited to see what the show would entail.

For generations, the sorcery students at Avalon Academy and the knights in training partook in a passionate rivalry while the ladies stood on the sidelines. All of that, however, is about to change. Sarah Shulman is a local playwright who wrote the recent MET collaborations Piper, Robin Hood, and The Young Olympians.
